Meet Dr. Bergina Isbell of Led Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Bergina Isbell.

Dr. Isbell, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the co-owner of Led Life Concierge Psychiatry, which offers private mental health and wellness care. Our vision is to put patients and their families at the center of everything we do. Instead of being just another “appointment on the books”, I give my patients customized time and premier quality attention that they deserve while addressing the biological, psychological, and social influences that affect their lifestyle. My husband, also a physician, provides the cutting edge technology that we use to support patients and clients in a way that is tailored to them and easy to navigate.

My childhood dream was to be a physician. I spent decades in training on the brain and behavior in some of the most elite institutions in the US. As a Board-Certified Psychiatrist, I’ve cared for patients ranging from musical artists to entrepreneurs of million-dollar companies. I helped them achieve what they couldn’t on their own – recovery from addictions and rediscover joy from their mission, vision, and values. I was successful and my dreams had come true. Then, I took a step away from the kind of career I had worked so hard to achieve because I wasn’t able to spend quality time with either my patients or my family.

My husband and I reverse engineered Led Life to be a different kind of health care organization with a different approach to health. I exchange the typically accepted crisis management model for optimal health maintenance. By truly connecting with my patients, I am able to become invested in their present and help them achieve a thriving future. By becoming a partner with them and their families in the healing process, I am able to help them renew your passion and energy with treatment options that can be delivered through secure telepsychiatry visits or exclusive in-home visits.

We mentor mental health professionals who are trying to move into the online space and our company has benefited from the switch to telehealth. Not only does virtual care open up our practice to more patients, but we also get to learn the best practices used in other areas when we work with colleagues from other locales. Telehealth and virtual coaching give us a wider reach and there’s a freedom in being able to work with people from across the country or around the world.”

It’s our mission to have all of my patients and clients feel like this Healthcare Executive: “Dr. Isbell was genuinely concerned about my overall person. I trusted the process and after working with her and following the recommendations, I am anxiety free and now medication free.” While each patient is given specifically tailored treatment, I create relationships built on trust, confidence and partnership.

I was frustrated with the way healthcare was, including the broken mental health system we currently have. Led Life was created to be flexible enough that it offers mental health services designed to focus on genuine care for each patient. Both our patients and clients enjoy the benefit of confidential access with appointments that adapt to their schedule, all from the comfort of home, office, or mobile-accessible area. For those whose time is at a premium and personalized service is essential, we offer memberships in our practice with those who are a good fit. Because we don’t want anyone to have difficulties receiving quality care, we also partner with several health organizations on the local, state, and national levels to improve access to care.

Has it been a smooth road?
My biggest obstacle has also been our greatest opportunity. I remember sitting in the office with a patient, who had already been rescheduled once when I got a call from my son’s school about the need to pick him up due to medical urgency. I felt torn as if I was doing a disservice both to my child and my patient. Neither of them was being served with my current work schedule and I was past the point of burnout.

I made the difficult decision to leave corporate practice and some of my patients with whom I genuinely loved working. When the private practice was started, it was with the goal of making family time a priority and giving patients the time they needed. I was so scared at first that a practice that created time for both family and patients was not going to be financially sustainable. But we matched my previous year’s salary in the first nine months of starting the practice. I knew we were onto something and opportunities for growth just keep coming our way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Led Life – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Led Life, LLC is a national company providing psychiatric care, consulting, and supervision to patients and clients desiring improved mental health and wellness in their personal and professional lives from a holistic perspective.

In a healthcare system that reduces people to diagnostic codes and billing units, we listen without labeling our patients. We provide care for the whole person and helps patients make informed decisions about their life choices in a welcoming and confidential manner. I am a Trauma specialist and specialize in working with Business owners and Special Needs populations.

Our Concierge Psychiatry practice is known for being unknown. One of the biggest compliments I can be given is “I didn’t know you did this!” This level of anonymity helps us provide a high level of care to those in need of confidentiality. Our patients and clients rely on this for their business, political, and personal reputations. It’s an honor to serve them.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like the most is the flexibility. When we are in the area or working with people from the area, we are able to problem solve in a very creative way due to the flexibility and diversity of the people.

What I like least about the city is the same for nearly any city in America as it relates to mental health. Stigma is still a concern in many locales. While it is less so in Atlanta, it is still prevalent.
