Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Helen B. Lawrence.
Helen was born and raised in a suburb just outside of Philadelphia – Norristown, Pennsylvania. At an early age, she knew she would be a teacher, however, when a registered nurse spoke passionately about her vocation during a career day, the experience strongly impacted her. Upon graduating from high school, Helen immediately enrolled in a Nursing Program at Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) where she earned her Associates in Applied Sciences as a Registered Nurse.
Armed with degrees in Nursing, Psychology, and Business, there is no wonder why Helen was destined to help and encourage and become a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President of her own company. The first of which being Peace of Mind Healthcare Resources, LLC. Initially, she developed this company to own and operate her own Personal Care Home, but she continued to research and ponder, it really wasn’t what she knew she was being “Called” to do. She began to look back on her career, “I had put myself through nursing school all the while working full time as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). During that journey, I did NOT have any role models or mentors that looked like me. It was in her day to day activities as a CNA and later as a Registered Nurse that she learned compassion for others and how we are indeed role models and responsible for those that look up to us and that LOOKED like us even more. So, that was where the light bulb clicked on and in 2019 she started her journey to open, own, and operate in the near future a CNA School. She is currently enrolled in a train the trainer program to complete the mandatory requirements.
Having grown up a self-proclaimed church girl, adding a fourth-degree in Ministry was also no surprise to those around her. The entrepreneurial bug hit when she became frustrated with the “status quo” in both Corporate America and the Church. Her frustration essentially awakened her true Calling and Passion and that was and is to help and encourage others. Helen learned firsthand what it takes to be successful as a leader as she spent over 20 years in both the Market Place and Ministry. Helen lives by a mantra to not only give back and pay it forward with others, but she also strongly believes that if only one person gets something out of what she teaches, preaches, and counsels, she’s done her job. This is where HL Consulting and Management, LLC was birthed. Helen continues to practice nursing as a Clinical Consultant, she also consults, coaches and counsels’ churches, leaders, and offers pre-marital counseling. Moreover, in addition to her business acumen, she is a well sought-after Minister, Mentor, Keynote Speaker, Author, Contributing Author to the American Bible Society and quite frankly, a force to be reckoned with. She has an astounding ability to connect with an audience, motivate the listener and push the audience to action.

Helen is a Podcaster, Blogger/Vlogger, Avid Traveler, and Sports Fanatic. Dr. Helen B. Lawrence is indeed a breath of fresh air and a needed change agent in these times and for your program or platform.
In 2016, she launched HeyyyHelen.com where she chronicles her love for Faith, Fashion & Football. Helen is the first to acknowledge that she is a work in progress and knows without a shadow of a doubt that GOD is real and His Will is Good, Acceptable, and Perfect. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 34:1, “I will bless the Lord at all times and His praises shall continually be in my mouth.”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Finances Finances Finances… For example for the Personal Care Home, it’s almost impossible to find a rental property to run the business, so I was literally looking to take on two mortgages as a single female. The State of GA (and I am sure most others) have a very difficult process in Gwinnett, and understandably so as you have “Lives” to care for and after, and I wasn’t 100% in. With the CNA School, there is a waiting period to even get into the program so you have to be patient. I walked away from Corporate America to fulfill my dreams, so every penny spent is mine and from savings. Finding grants has been another challenge, but I recently linked up with my Counties Chamber of Commerce and have taken advantage of the many free and low-cost seminars, trainings, and mentorship program
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the HL Consulting & Management, Peace of Mind Healthcare Resources. Tell us more about it.
Peace of Mind Healthcare Resources, LLC is designed for the CNA School but is not limited to that. I consult on healthcare manners, provide medication training for programs that need an RN (required in the State of GA) CPR Training, and PCA (Personal Care Assistant) Training. I still keep my feet wet and my mind refreshed as a short and long term contract Director for Case Management on a National Level. I recently pulled back on travel assignments to allow me to focus 100% on the CNA School. My goal is for POM to grow as a one-stop-shop for your Healthcare needs. I would love to add transportation services, job placement assistance, and an adult daycare center.
HL Consulting & Management, LLC provides education and training to church leadership, Ministers and Deacon and Training programs, Ordination Preparation, Church protocol, etc. I have been utilized for conferences in both the marketplace and ministry for panel and breakout sessions, MC/ Mistress of Ceremony and as a Keynote Speaker. HL Consulting offers pre-marital counseling and officiates wedding, funerals, baptisms and baby dedications just to name a few. Ministry is the core of EVERYTHING I am and do, so it is very important that I NEVER lose that foundation. I promote the book through this business as well as am working to pull my first conference/retreat, prayerfully in 2020. I am also obeying my calling to Pastor and remaining diligent in that and not to be premature at obtaining a building until I KNOW it’s time.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t want to sound deep, but I honestly don’t believe in luck, happenstances, or coincidences. I feel like if it happens it was supposed to. I don’t think that denial is always that, sometimes the timing isn’t right and you have to wait on. There is a lesson in everything, even the things that hurt us, or as mentioned here “bad luck”. It may sound corny but I believe that hard work pays off, and if it’s meant to be, it will be… PERIOD.
