Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kevin Kinney.
Dr. Kinney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
With over 10 years of experience in the entertainment industry, from event production to artist management, music and entertainment have always been my first love. After graduating from the University of Central Florida, the real world came for me quickly and I had to find an “adult job” and so I began teaching at an elementary school in Orlando, Fl.
As I began to explore graduate level programs and possible career paths, I was introduced to Chiropractic. Previously I had no experience with chiropractic, that was until I took my first visit to Life University in Marietta, Ga. There I learned what chiropractic was, a science of healing that involved no drugs or surgery. The more time I spent on that visit I began to see the true beauty of the profession, the understanding that true healing and health occurs when the body is able to function free of interference to the nervous system.
While enrolled at Life University I began the process of figuring out how I could integrate this new passion for chiropractic into the world of entertainment which I had previously been immersed. I began to recognize that many creators and artists alike were not able to perform at optimal levels for long periods, whether due to physical dysfunction or mental blocks such as brain fog and writer’s block. These are signs of nervous system dysfunction, a problem in which chiropractor specializes in correcting.
Building upon this I would eventually develop the mobile wellness practice I have today that see’s clients in home, studios, sets or other areas where they may create. I currently work with artists of all types (recording, visual, performing, video/photography, producers, directors, engineers etc) in addition to anyone else looking to maximize their level of expression.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are not many doctors who specialize in working with the demographic that I work with so trailblazing always comes with its share of bumps. The biggest obstacle would have to be introducing those who have not been previously exposed, or have been misinformed, about chiropractic care to treatment.
Competing with the culture of instant gratification and the overflow of drugs, both legal and illicit, in the entertainment industry makes the natural approach the less “sexy” choice of care. Opening clients eyes to the damage that they are doing to themselves with these toxic drugs and choices they make, and the long term benefits to their career that taking a more holistic approach to health can have is another struggle.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Culture Chiropractic & Wellness story. Tell us more about the business.
I own a mobile chiropractic and wellness consulting company that specializes in removing the blocks stopping clients from achieving their highest levels of expression of creatively, professionally and personally. We are known for being so dedicated to our clients that we meet them where they are, both literally and figuratively. Our dedication to educating clients on the process of chiropractic care and the effects chiropractic adjustments have on the nervous system, in turn affecting the rest of the body sets Culture Chiropractic & Wellness apart from others.
We are most proud of our efforts to integrate natural healthcare into the world of entertainment, whether working with individual artists or entire studio crews or sets. We are leading the movement to elevate the narrative of wellness in the entertainment industry.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the natural healthcare industry, in general, continuing to grow and expand, including regular usage of chiropractic care. As more research is done into alternatives to traditional ideas of healthcare, we will see professions like chiropractic, acupuncture and naturopathy become to be more widely accepted by the mainstream and public. I predict that the amount of people regularly undergoing chiropractic care, and other alternatives, will more than double.
The United States is in the midst of a drug epidemic of levels unseen in recent memory. Overdose and addiction rates are steadily climbing, and we are approaching a point where society is reaching a boiling point with respect to the big pharmacy the entire system it propagates. With increased awareness of the dangers of prescription and designer drugs, people will seek sources of care that do not carry the same detrimental side effects.
