Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Terica Pearson.
Dr. Terica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story of becoming a multipreneur began when I was eight years old. During my younger years to around age 15, we lived in poverty in Chicago. I saw my mom laid off from her job and unable to obtain another one. She hustled, from babysitting, taking care of the elderly, cooking and baking, to make sure we had our necessities. Still, I saw my mother still served in our community through our home church and kept us involved, with providing food, clothes, etc. My mother instilled in us the importance of serving in your community, becoming involve, and active. I made a vow that I will be in a financial position to not only provide resources for my family but my community. I knew the only way I could that is become a multipreneur with multiple streams of income.
This entrepreneurial journey first started with watering the grass for homeowners in the neighborhood. Also, I played the drums for churches. We moved to Georgia. Fast forward to after high school. I took off a few years before furthering my higher education goals to work. During that time working at two fast-food chains, I knew I wanted more. In 1998, I prayed and asked God for guidance. God led me to two wonderful individuals, owners of an insurance agency, whom are still my spiritual parents and mentors. I was hired as their administrative assistant, where I learned the insurance business. During my tenure with them, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and Master of Science in Management (MSM) with a concentration in Leadership. I took a break from the insurance industry to work on my music and educator career.
I am a professional drummer playing for different recording artists, churches, studio, and having my own band. Additionally, managing a few recording artists. After establishing my music career, I started my career as an Educator, teaching at-risk teens about Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and Microsoft Office Suite. Working with at-risk teens was such a wonderful experience because I had the opportunity to serve, impart, and mentor young people to become better and feel confident about themselves. Moving forward, I started teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to business, entrepreneurship, leadership, and computer software. Also, I completed my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organizational Management with a concentration in Leadership. I knew every step, challenge, setback, etc. was preparing me for my purpose and destiny.
After working with at-risk teens for at least ten years, the school’s funding was limited, so I was let go. It was a blessing in disguise. I decided to start my own insurance agency. It was in the right time because I am pursuing my purpose of helping businesses and individuals become properly insured and serving the community. Additionally, my passion for motivating, inspiring, and encouraging individuals to pursue their God-given passion and purpose led me to have workshops or training pertaining to running your business, professional development, and financial management.
I love where I am going with several business ventures that consist of an insurance agency, production company, professional development and training, and artist management, and a juice cafe. An experienced multitrepreneur, educator, professional musician, and professional developer, my passion in life lies in developing and motivating others through empowering, educating, and equipping in every facet of their life.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not a smooth road. There must be challenges for lessons and growth. Some struggles were not losing faith, when you are faced with many no’s before that yes. Also, hiring staff and contracting agents who are motivated with fulfilling your vision. Building relationships and making sure time management practices are effective.
