Meet Elisa Patton of Sitting Pretty Pet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Patton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since childhood, I’ve had a strong connection with animals. Animals were such a large and influential part of my growing up. My grandparents had a small farm in Florida and my father was a jockey. Through them I learned so much about caring for animals and the value they bring to our lives.

I first began pet sitting while in college for a handful of people for extra money and loved it. I knew right away that caring for animals was my life’s calling. I few years later I started working full time for a local nonprofit no-kill animal shelter. Being involved in rescue was probably the fulfilling work I’ve ever done. I was in rescue for eight years however all the while I continued to do overnight pet sitting part time. While I loved rescue, I began to get burned out (as anyone who’s ever worked in the nonprofit world knows isn’t difficult 🙂 I also noticed myself starting to become jaded towards humanity due to the awful abuse and neglect cases that I would see on a regular basis. I had a strong desire to continue my work with animals but wanted to focus my energy in a different direction. I loved pet sitting and began to explore doing it full time and starting up my own business. I got my feet wet by working for a couple of friends that started up their own pet sitting businesses to see how I would like it. They showed me the ins and outs and I immediately fell in love. I knew this was it! This is happy place. One of those friends was Kelly Webb, the original founder of Sitting Pretty Pet Care. Not long after coming on with Kelly she presented me with the opportunity to purchase Sitting Pretty. She had to move out of state but understood the importance of how hands on this business was. She wanted to pass it on to someone that would embrace it with the same enthusiasm and love as she did. I can’t think of any other way to describe it other than serendipitous. I have now been the proud owner of Sitting Pretty Pet Care for 3 years now. In that time, we have grown and expanded our team to what it is today. We have continued to maintain the great reputation, integrity and quality of care that Sitting Pretty was founded on.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a small business owner is a learning experience daily. I had it easier than most because some of the procedures and guidelines were already in place when I came on. However, there is always room for growth and changes. The biggest struggle for me personally was having the confidence to take risks. However, with time that has definitely been something I’ve been able to improve on. You just have to step out there and jump and have faith that you’ll land on your feet. And just know if you don’t you can always get back up and start again. Don’t allow fear to cripple you.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sitting Pretty Pet Care – what should we know?
Sitting Pretty Pet Care offers a variety of in home pet care services. For our clients that work long hours and can’t get home to give their fur kids the potty break or exercise they might need during the day, we’ve got you covered. We do pet visits for cat and pups if you’re traveling for work or pleasure. I personally believe that pets are their most happiest and comfortable in their home environment. So we come to them and take care of their needs as many times a day as desired by the client. We also take care of minor things around the home while our clients are out of town. We bring in mail and packages, take out the trash, water plants and rotate lights around the home if needed.

We have experienced overnight sitters available for our clients that prefer to have someone stay overnight with their pets. Lastly, we offer pet taxi services for clients that need assistance getting their pets to vet appointments, the groomers, or drop off/pick up to doggie daycare.

I’m proud that we can offer a service that caters to your pets. It’s already stressful enough on our fur kids when we are away from them. We are able to come to them and make sure that their daily routine remains the same and they get the love and attention they need right in the comfort of their own home. We have a compassionate and experienced staff that really cares about what they do. We are small so we are able to gain a more personal relationship with our clients. You don’t have to worry about multiple people coming to take care of your pups and kitties like with the larger companies. We offer consistency all around.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Integrity by far is one of the most important things to me as well as my team. What we do is very important. We understand that our clients are trusting us with their family members and homes and we don’t take that lightly. We always want to make sure that we set the bar high by giving quality of care and paying attention to details. When you’re dealing with taking care of someone’s loved ones, humans or animals, there’s no greater responsibility than that.
