Meet Elizabeth Newsom of The Beauty Hideaway Shop in North Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Newsom.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elizabeth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story really begins in my childhood. I’ve always loved people. I can remember how excited I was to run out on the playground to play with the other kids. A holistic lifestyle was ingrained in me at an early age by my quintessential “Granola Mom.” I was taught the importance of health and nutrition from going to outdoor farmers’ markets to watching my Mother participate in food co-ops. In our household, self-care was an important aspect of our life, which I still love to this day. I believe fundamentally that “Health + Lifestyle Balance = Beauty.”

Fast-forward to after college. I began my passionate journey into skincare over two decades ago when I went to work for Jurlique Holistic Skincare. I instantly fell in love with the skincare industry unique niche of improving wellbeing through nurturing and topical nutrition. I can’t count the times I felt I was the luckiest person to have found something I love so early in life. I eagerly learned everything I could and this exposure to the industry’s products and trendsetting spas fed my passion for the spa experience. This inspired me to return back to school to become a licensed esthetician. During my time serving clients in the corporate spa world, I explored more advanced aging technologies, as well as developed protocols, facilitated corporate esthetic training and honed one of my “signature” experiences of custom tailoring client’s services.

It wasn’t until after I started my family that the urge to pursue my dream of having my own skincare studio became a reality. It became clear that working from home would allow me to spend vital time with my daughter whilst being able to more intentionally craft my services in a more results-oriented clinical way I was feeling led to explore. My husband and I began the vision and design work for what would be my perfect studio. After a lot of love, sweat and happy tears, we unveiled The Beauty Hideaway, a private upscale skin care studio.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Probably the biggest challenge I’ve faced was I’d never started a new business before. There was a huge learning curve and more steps in setting up a skincare studio from your home than I would have ever imagined. Amidst our start-up year, my husband and I had two of our parents suffer major health issues that caused significant delays. The combination of new baby, sick parents and a long to-do list really forced us to be very specific with the energy we had to accomplish our goals. We feel prouder for it.

I find my time in the treatment room, providing services to be effortless, esthetics is a true joy to me. It’s all the other hats I wear for the Beauty Hideaway that challenges me and is stretching my abilities to grow.

The Beauty Hideaway Shop – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Intentionally set off the beaten path, I designed The Beauty Hideaway as a peaceful sanctuary that renews the skin as well as the soul. The inviting, comfortable décor, architectural lighting, calming aromatherapy and uplifting music set the stage for clients to relax into their rejuvenating services. With therapeutic intention and touch, Hideaway guests return to their sense of knowing their own authentic beauty.

I called on my 18-year skincare background to build a comprehensive menu of services that accommodates everyone’s needs, from advanced clinical treatments for wrinkle reduction-brighter complexion-acne free to the “Perfect brow.” Treatments include microneedling, clinical & professional peels, eye treatment, add-on technology enhancements, treatment enhancements, eyelash/brow tinting and face/body waxing. One of my “signatures” is that I don’t do “Cookie Cutter” services, you can always expect your facial will be custom-tailored to your skin’s needs on that day. My treatments always feature more massage, known as high touch. I believe it improves even my more clinical result-oriented services by making them more relaxing.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe I owe my success to my friendly nature and love of people. I have enjoyed every minute of the 11 years I’ve been an esthetician. I feel even more passionate to help others improve their skincare health and reconnect with their sense of feeling beautiful. It shows in my client loyalty. Before my doors formally opened, many clients eagerly awaited my grand opening. The Beauty Hideaway was an overnight success. I am grateful I haven’t had to focus on marketing, which is a huge part of most new businesses. Thankfully I can focus on my craft and learn about new innovations in skincare to improve my offerings. The real success is the profound pride I feel when a client trusts me to refer someone close to them, I happily welcome them into my skincare family.
