Meet Elliott Sperin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elliott Sperin.

Elliott, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My music story starts when I was a kid. I grew up with three older brothers who loved to compete at everything, but as a youngest sibling I was able find music as my escape when I couldn’t keep up. I could express myself in music. Even at a young age, my musically taste spanned a wide range of genres, I went from classical rock to bluegrass to classical and broadway. My favorite movie was phantom of the opera, my favorite CD was “Queen: the greatest hits”, and every weekend I would be inspired by north Georgia bluegrass shows and church music. I learned music was used to entertain and bring people together.

I quickly learned how to play a variety of instruments, starting with piano when I was 8, guitar when I was 12, banjo when I was 15, and voice when I was 16. In high school, I started writing music and competing in different music competitions. As a pianist, I learned how to perform in front of an audience, but as a folk musician, I learned how music is able to impact a community. I fell in love with Appalachian banjo music. It’s expressive, communal, and contains so much history at the same time. I would go onto competing and winning the Georgia state old-time banjo competition for the years 2016, 2017, and 2018. I’ve had the honor of playing banjo all around the world in Asian and Europe, I have been inspired by how different cultures are impacted by music. In late in high school I downloaded logic Pro X and starting figuring out how to record and mix original music. I’ve learned music is a tool for self-expression, keeping tradition, and unifying a community.

Today I’m constantly writing my own music and performing shows every weekend around the North Atlanta and North Georgia areas. My original music takes influences from folk and rock, as well as pop and hiphop.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been many ups and downs, time of remembering out what inspired me to pursue music in the first place.

In writing there has been so many moments when I knew what I wanted to achieve but I had to idea how to get there.

In performing, I’ve had moments when performing four hour long gigs when I felt completely down and uninspired. No one seemed to react to what I was performing and it was just a bad day.

In learning new music there has been so many times when I had to sacrifice something to take the time to practice.

In music there are always a doubt about putting time into it. There are a people who think someone about to come out of college should only concentrate on their career, not music.

I have at some point, believed all the doubts there are about music. But, I always find myself coming back to music. I always find myself being inspired by someone else or just feeling deep down that music is something I want to pursue.

Although it’s hard at times, I don’t think I could ever stop creating. Music has brought me some of the most magical moments of my life.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My music business: Elliott Sperin Music.

I’m currently a performing musician in the north Georgia and Atlanta areas. I can do music for weddings, restaurants, events, and concert settings.

As a musician, I can engage an audience and keep them entertained. for a long period of time. I specialize in folk music, but I play a wide variety depending on the occasion.

I’m set apart from others because as a musician my skill reaches deep and wide. I have studied extensively in traditional Appalachian music and the philosophy that goes along with it. I have also studied within many different genres of music. Because of my musical diversity, I am able to entertain a crowd for a long time and do it well.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started learning how to produce music, make beats, and write music earlier. Other than that, there’s nothing I would change about my path to where I am now.
