Meet ENMUSE Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avina and Edwin Tandiono of ENMUSE Photography – husband-and-wife wedding photographers and storytellers.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Our story started with a vision.

Not ours, interestingly enough, but of our friend’s Rica Tan (herself a bosslady/creative genius at Etude Entertainment – Atlanta’s premiere destination for personalized musical entertainment). My husband Edwin was always a photography aficionado and would share his work documenting casual events and random friends/family moments on his Facebook page.

Rica was planning her wedding and believed in Edwin’s artistic eyes and potentials so much that she asked him to photograph her wedding! To say we were shocked is an understatement… However, something clicked in us and instead of shying away from the opportunity Edwin decided to jump and asked me to join forces with him.

That was eight years ago. Edwin and I were just one year into dating, but it somehow felt right to start a business together, knowing that we have different-yet-complimentary skill sets to bring to the table: his photography and editing crafts, my marketing cred as well as passion for creative writing and directing (thanks to years and years of Vogue subscriptions!).

Also, it helps that we have very different personalities – he is more reserved while I am a bit more out there which I believe create a comfortable dynamic for our brides and grooms.

The rest, as they say, is history. Goes to show the power of having supportive and visionary friends in your life!

Please tell us about your art.
We are a husband-and-wife wedding photography team based in Atlanta, GA although 50% of our clientele is from out of state. We consider our styles an artistic blend of photojournalism and editorial with strong attention to details.

“Photojournalism” basically means we go into “ninja” mode and blend into the crowd as much as we can to capture the raw emotions, moments and even little details like decorations/shoes/venue/favors – all of which make up the true essence of a wedding day. However, during times like the newlywed portraits and family/bridal party group photos, we switch into creative directing mode to avoid awkward moments and help create an experience that will translate into timeless, #allthefeels photos that our clients and families will treasure for generations to come.

Photography can be a cool hobby and even a viable career. But, personally, this is our ultimate Passion Project: a blank canvas onto which both of us pour our shared lifelong dream to produce Something Beautiful, Something Meaningful, Something that Lasts Forever.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
As an artist, specifically as wedding photographers, we define success as being able to always find Something Beautiful – even in seemingly ordinary circumstances – and capture it in a series of artistic images that our clients would show to their children and grandchildren to help retell their love story.

Be it a twinkle in the groom’s eyes during the First Look, or that symbolistic handshake between the Father of the Bride and the Groom at the bottom of the altar, or That “I Can’t Believe We’re Married!” Kiss that all newlyweds do at the very end of the ceremony when they reached the end of the aisle and thought nobody else is looking – all of which worth a thousand words.

One interesting quality that we believe sets apart a great wedding photographer from the rest is his/her ability to be a chameleon. As the person who spends the most time with the bride and groom on a typically hectic wedding day, often times a photographer has to wear many other hats such as a timekeeper/stylist/hypeman/peacemaker/cheerleader/therapist. So it is important to read the energy of the bride and groom to understand what our role should be at that exact moment…all while doing our main job of course. Also, the occasional crazy turns of events we face in our job force us to learn the art of impromptu improvisation when situation calls for it – which has honestly helped in our day-to-day lives, too!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We will be exhibiting our work at the Alpharetta Wedding Alliance Wedding Showcase on Sunday, September 23rd 2018 at the Hotel at Avalon.
