Today we’d like to introduce you to Erase E.
Hi Erase, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, I’m a professional recording artist who has been recording music for many years. I have released albums and have featured on many songs with major and independent artists.
I started writing songs but they were actually stories at 13. Recording music around 14-15 years of age. My neighbor who lived across the street used to play his music loud enough I could hear it from his bedroom window. One day I spoke to him about music and we clicked that day. We would later form a group with him and two other childhood friends.
Fast forward I would drop my debut album and begin my musical journey.
What stands out about me, I have done recordings for the kids and youth programs, such as:
Stay In School, Never Give Up, Last Chance U (Netflix soundtrack), Girl Dad, Kid’s Dance Party (during covid 19), Mother’s Love (dedicated to the mothers), Ala Costa special needs children) We also recorded a video with the kids in the video. They felt really inspired.
Peace On the streets- dedicated to the youth violence. 123 Let’s Go is song about fitness and health. Hati with Love and many more.
I also have done charity and volunteer work in my community.
The more I type, the more I feel like I can write a book about my life experiences. I have so many stories.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The writing and recording has been very smooth. It’s so natural for me. I love creativity.
The struggle would probably be being your own boss. It comes with freedom and cost. You make all the decisions, even if doesn’t work out. You live, learn and keep going.
When you presenting a product for sale, I learned you have to know who you are targeting and what will get the attention of the consumer.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write, record, perform and produce hip-hop music. I also love other genres of music such as: R&B, soul, jazz, rock, gospel, country, funk, reggae, and blues
I’m known as the artist Erase-E. One of my proudest moments is performing in front of 20,000 people at the San Jose Arena for the Sabercats Arena Football League. Seeing the crowd screaming and being hyped. It also gave me energy to perform at a high level. I’m also just proud to be able to record and produce albums while displaying my own creativity for so many years.
I love being me. Everything that has happened in my life makes my story. I cannot be someone else. I get information from all walks of life and insert some things from others and make it my own. My creativity is from a divine source. My knowledge of self and others is what gives me a direct connection to all things.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My good friend Stephen Ashford aka Kontac. A. P.E. school teacher at East Palo Alto Charter School in East Palo Alto, CA., and label owner of Beats By The Bay Records. I’ve been working with Kontac for many years. He’s the reason I got involved in kid message songs and featured me on all of his projects. He’s now working on independent films like comedy-driven Finders Keepers and 60 Days. Doing these kids’ uplifting songs changed me a lot. I watch what say a lot more because kids are listening. I still speak on real-life things and situations. Kontac has always tried to help further my career. He’s got me placements on albums, soundtracks, internet radio and promotional advertisements. He’s the biggest playmaker I know. Because of Kontac, I’ve been active nonstop.
I will also like to credit my producer in music and life, L’erin “McLaren F1” Owens. I grew up with Mclaren, so it only made since to connect with each other. We share ideals about music and life so that’s gives us one up on doing records together. Everything is very natural with us. McLaren will have an idea and might create a hook and I’ll write the verses, which makes me focus on just writing. Most of the time he’ll let me hear what he’s produced and I’ll create something after hearing the music. We’ve been doing hip hop for countless years now. No egos, no hang-ups, no worries. McLaren F1 has produced 99% of my music in the last ten years. Over 15 singles and albums like “On E!”, and “Conscious Player”.
Another producer I have to credit is long time friend, which I would like to call family is Kevin” Kaviar” fka “Kidnap” Mitchell. Who was very instrumental in getting me signed to an independent label while being a teenager.
Kev and I had recorded music together years before a record deal. In the 11th grade, I had accident which I injured my hand and arm. Shortly after that Kev asked me, did I still want to pressure music. I was like YES! at the time I was looking for some motivation, and got it from Kev.
We recorded a couple of songs. Soon after I get a call from Kev saying he just played our music to a new start up label and they are looking for an artist. I fit the criteria. Kev says they want to meet with me in two weeks. I was hyped! I gathered all my songs I written in notebooks and meet the people who would executive produce my first album. Kev would produce my debut album “S4TG”. Another super producer from the Bay Area, K-Lou Productions would also produce the title track and played guitar and bass on two other songs.
Other people who help me become me was another long-time friend. “STN” aka Slick. We actually lived on the same street. So I bond was a lot different. When you grow up with someone you see every day, you have genuinely love for them. We also recorded a lot of music together. It was effortlessly. I learned a lot from Slick. Two different types of artists but did music very organic. Slick recorded his music with Voz and Andre Rivers at Poor Man’s Studios in Richmond, CA. Slick would release an album, but his second album and collaboration album was released after a sudden passing. I vowed to keep his and our legacy fully up by sticking with music.
My good friend, now cousin-in-law, DJ Iceberg. We called him “Chuck” is where I initially started. Chuck had DJ equipment, turn tables, beat machine, mixer and a 4 second sampler. He used chop up sample records from the crates of old school records and create new songs for us to rhyme too. We recorded my beginnings in his bedroom. Without this part, there’s no part.
And my brothers, the Brohydez. Who we’re bounded by music and performing but formed a deeper brotherhood, through life and creativity.
