Erica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a licensed master Cosmetologist working in a high traffic salon we often run out of things. We run out of lightener, hair color, styling products and even extensions. I realized early on that hair desserts existed and most times the closest professional beauty supply was miles away.
Stylist lose time with clients when they have to leave to get product and it doesn’t matter how prepared of stylist you are, you simply can’t have everything. So I thought, “what if…” and it began from there, Atlanta Hair Delivery (AHD) was birthed.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say this has been a series of bumps in the form of trials and error. Trying to find a cost-effective way to make a seamless transaction for my customers has been as task. Also, finding ways to avoid scammers who prey on extension resellers has been a challenge. In the beginning, there were people who actually placed online orders then later disputed their transactions after receiving the product, so I had to put a stop to it. As a result, I invested in a website that is not only super easy to navigate, but also one that helps to pinpoint the risks before the transaction is completed. We still have a ways to go as far as helping our community to understand that a service and experience like this really does exists.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have yet to be blessed with an opportunity to secure a mentor, however networking is key. It has helped me to bring awareness to my brand by using my inner circle as validation to others who need clarity of my brand in order to make a purchase. I feel networking is great in being able to access different audiences. It can catapult a business if it crosses the right mass at the right time.
