Today we’d like to introduce you to Essence Lopez .
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started early on. I took a liking to all things Beauty following my mom. I dyed my hair in 7th grade to a blonde shade. As I approached my teens, I had almost every hairstyle & color you could think of. In my early 20’s, I started wearing and applying my own makeup. I used to get tons of compliments especially on my eyebrows. Everyone would ask me where did I go to get my brows done. That made me feel like, well if my makeup looks that professional, I’m going to start doing makeup on other people so they can look & feel as good as I did. In 2014, I was laid off my job. I had been doing security for five years & truthfully, I hated every bit of it. I took that opportunity and started working at Stonecrest Mall as a Makeup artist. I continued my journey working at several other malls, Going to School for Esthetics, and taking additional makeup classes. By 2016 I started my own business in the comfort of my home after being Certified in Lash Extensions. Just shortly, two months after, I was in a shared suite. Forward now to 2019, I’ve been in business for 3 years and I have my own Suite near Northlake Mall Area. My journey, by far, has not been easy. I still work a full-time job and in the midst of it all, I’ve had 3 beautiful children, ages 13, 4, & 1. I’m still not exactly where I want to be but I’m proud of going after my dreams and never giving up. I tell anyone, go after what you want, never give up, and stay consistent. What you put in is what you get out! Thank you Voyage ATL for letting me share my story and hopefully inspiring someone!
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a walk in the park. As stated before, I’ve had three kids throughout my journey and I still work a full-time job. Sometimes business is slower than other times but I’m determined to keep pushing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Beauty of Essence – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I started The Beauty of Essence with the mission to Beautify and Educate! I Love doing makeup but my specialty is Lash Extensions. I also offer Lash Certification Classes. I believe what sets me apart is my Desire to give My Clients exactly what they ask for and also to educate them on the services that I provide to them. I also feel as though Sanitation & Customer Service goes a long way. Everyone doesn’t know how to run a Business! That Most definitely sets me Apart.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The Best thing I like about Atlanta is that it’s definitely a state for Fashion and Beauty. There are so many talented hairstylists and Makeup artists, yet still there’s enough to go around for everyone. The thing I would probably dislike most is that people are always in Competition and putting other artists down. I feel like what’s for you is for you & what’s for me is for me! No shade over here!
