Meet Evangeline Laveau

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evangeline Laveau.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Evangeline. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Oakland, California and raised in Sacramento. My entire life has been surrounded by the arts, my history, culture, and music. I started dance at the age of 9 with ballet, like many. However, I grew to love other styles such as; Brazilian Samba, West African, and Lindy Hop. This helped cultivate my love of the stage and performing.

Growing up, I was also very much into animation, computers, video games, comics, and anything geek related. I went to my first anime convention(Sac-Anime) when I was just 13 years old. Since then, I’ve been cosplaying for a good 14 years now.

I moved to Georgia in 2016 and I’ve been making a name for myself since. Whether it’s in Cosplay, LGBTQ, Queer Women of Color, or Burlesque – my goal is to always leave a mark. I started burlesque in Atlanta in October of 2017 and I haven’t looked back. I’ve been on stages throughout Atlanta and Athens – now my goal is to go beyond this state and inspire others.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some struggles. With both Cosplay & Burlesque, I’m very hyper aware of my body and always wanting to fit a certain standard. I’ve learned that it’s only slowed down my growing process and when I let that go, I’ve excelled in many different areas. There will always be those that do not like you, those that discourage you, and things that will be roadblocks. It’s always good to know that you persevere through it all.

Please tell us about Evangeline Laveau.
I am my own business, meaning I market myself. Whether it’s for Princess Parties, Cosplay Volunteering, Modeling, or booking a gig as a performer – I always have to know my strengths. I’m proud that in such a short time, I’ve been able to brand myself and network to get my name out there and on the stage.

What sets me apart is my continuous passion and drive, no matter the circumstances.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Ambition – like a Slytherin. But seriously, my ambition is what has helped me succeed. The willingness to try new and different things that I wouldn’t normally think I could do. Pushing forward, even when I’ve told myself it’s not possible – I know it’s possible. Always striving for a higher goal and not someone else’s.
