Today we’d like to introduce you to Florence Beauredon.
Originally from France, Florence has a passion for Freedom of expression and honesty, as well as being kind to one another and always defends the causes of the disadvantaged ones.
Combining themes of awareness, symbolism of hidden truths and using her paintbrushes as a whistle blower at times, her paintings are raw and symbolic (using acrylic on canvas as well as raw materials/mixed media).
Willing to use her art for a purpose and lead by her activism mission, she also decided to dedicate a part of her work to the Hidden Black History and Black Awareness, using her canvases as an educational platform to expose the magnificent Black history that cannot be found in books or libraries…
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was never an easy road but I have learned that as long as you keep the fire alive, even hidden, inside, one day or another, along your life, your art will come out and shine! Blessed with an artistic family gift (that, ironically has only touched women in my family), I’ve always been drawing, cartooning and painting without any effort. So, I will never take any credits for my work, I owe it to God truthfully! I’ve been MANY times in trouble in school for sketching teachers and silly situations in class, I’ve also made plenty of friends in my various work experiences, by cartooning my coworkers and funny instances on the job place.
It was truly tough, when, as a teenager, I had succeeded passing the art exam of one of the fanciest Art School in Paris, France, after HS, but realizing that the tuition was out of reach financially and my dad did not believe in art career. I had to surrender to “lame” studies in English and administration, to follow the path of many people into the work force later, in various jobs that were never truly me… but the fire was still there… just dormant!
It only takes the right place, the right time to bring your dream back to life and Atlanta just did that!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My favorite topic is to bring to life Black history and awareness, this is related to a very deep personal story that has been the guiding principle of my life until now. I am aware, that, unless you know my true story, it is difficult to understand the deep and uncontrollable passion and devotion a little white girl from the South of France may have for the Black cause, but this is truly me, as an artist. Telling stories that are hard to find in history books, that get erased from archives sometimes, that prevent the truth to come out, is the main part of my art. Empowering people that may be more sensible to images than long chapters to read, to realize the beauty of their History and the related Power and Glory that needs to be told.
On a lighter note, my second theme is, understandably, related to France sceneries, displaying the quiet atmosphere of a country where life is still peaceful and naive sometimes …
Finally, my goofy-self will never stop cartooning funny situations and all the people that gravitate around me, as my eyes always naturally catch the laughable side of each situation! 😉
On a technique levels, I am using mainly acrylic paint on canvas, but I, recently, have experienced using various medias such as wood, wool, fabrics, pearls, collages, etc. I really want to try painting on metal too. It is always a new adventure, a new journey to experience…
What were you like growing up?
Even though, my mother, who was a professional ballerina, got me to be a dancer from a very early age, I was mostly a tomboy, growing up, always in sports and having plenty of guy friends. I had a kind heart and was always pulled to help the ones that were bullied, disadvantaged or hurt. I sometimes felt out of place and different from the others but I “rolled with it” and eventually, embraced it!
Despite a happy childhood, life has sometimes been pretty rough and hurtful, but I have learned how to take each and every of my scars as a very useful experience and a blessing in disguise to grow and finally become who I am now!

I recently attended an art event-that exhibited many artists in Atlanta. And greatly enjoyed Ms.Beauredon artwork there.
The Freedom Dancer struck me as a very desirable piece. After reading this article.I have a better appreciation for all of her artwork, but the “ballerina” is my favorite …so far.
To me -Her art is a recognition of Her heritage, and Her own vitality. Her sparkle.
