Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriella Cruz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Gabriella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was introduced to Software Development at a young age by a close family friend. Knowing my interest and the many opportunities available in the Tech Industry, my mother enrolled me in a weekend DigiGirlz Event hosted by Microsoft. At the DigiGirlz seminar, I learned how to create my first webpage and I was hooked! Throughout high school, I began creating websites for fun and took courses to help me grow. I then went on to receive my Bachelor’s degree in computer science from Georgia State University and began working as a developer for a major 500 company. After a few years in the industry, I am now able to consult and create websites for small businesses.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can say that I’ve had a very blessed journey. However, one of my personal challenges has been to overcome the tendency to not push past contentment. In his book “Good to Great,” author Jim Collins states that “Good is the enemy of great.” A good result and contentment aren’t bad things. However, when I stick to what’s comfortable, it’s easy to lose sight of the greater gift that I have to offer. I’m thankful to have been blessed at a young age to have a sound career that provides a good living. However, I’ve had to push beyond becoming stuck there and maintain a focus on my personal passions as well.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I consult and create websites for small businesses to help them grow their online presence. I offer website planning, reviews, and creation for businesses to market their services and products online. I began creating websites for small businesses to offer my expertise and be an affordable option for companies just starting out. I understand that not every small business owner has thousands of dollars to pour into a website. Their main revenue stream is their product or service — not their website. Businesses hire me to handle the technical aspects of their brand so they can focus on what matters most, building their business. I serve as a trusted web developer for businesses to know what it takes to create a quality website and what technologies to include on their website.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The biggest quality that drives me is my passion to help others. I began my business after recognizing a need that I could meet. I offer the same high quality, invaluable services to my clients that you find at major corporate companies. My passion to help others succeed enables me to spread my knowledge to those who are struggling to grow their online presence.
