Today we’d like to introduce you to Gail Johnson.
Gail, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I planned my first wedding when I was only 18 years old, and from then on, I knew that planning weddings and events were going to be my passionate pursuit for many years to come. I have planned hundreds of successful events, from a Paris wedding proposal to a celebrity baby shower, to an American reality television show Platinum Wedding, and a dream wedding in Italy! I have also co-authored the wedding book, Atlanta Weddings for the Modern, Stylish Chic Bride which has helped to simplify the planning process for brides all over the world to create their dream weddings.
Has it been a smooth road?
It is never a smooth road when you are a business owner. You sacrifice time away from your family and long hours at the office leading to burnout. I learn that being a solopreneur (running a business on my own) was a better choice for me rather than being in a business partnership. Also, finding creative ways to keep a business afloat financially is a struggle that most businesses face at some point in their lifespan.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gail Johnson Weddings & Events story. Tell us more about the business.
Gail Johnson Weddings and Events is a full-service bridal/event consultancy that coordinates a limited number of once-in-a-lifetime events. The company is an Atlanta based but offers domestic and international services.
Growing up in Ohio, I can remember my favorite childhood memory revolved around social events at church. Attending church services on Sunday, and accompanying my mother and aunts to evening/weekend church teas, weddings, picnics, ice cream socials, and yearly festivals were some of the best years of my life.
To be truthful about three takeaways from this memory, I realized that: 1. I was born to be a wedding and event planner, 2. I would model the quality of service after my childhood experience, 3. This memory created the person I am today, who always pursues excellence.
What sets my company apart from others, above all, at Gail Johnson Wedding and Events, I pride myself on being client-oriented by listening to the visions of our clients rather than pushing our agenda; my strategy for a successful wedding/event is client vision, company guidance. My expertise as an industry pro is something that comes from 25 years of experience, training, and continuing education to keep a pulse on the latest industry innovations/trends.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
One thing I love about this industry is it will continue to evolve over the years. Modern brides are forgoing traditions and creating their mark on the industry. These changes will continue to change the industry over the next decade. The market is also experiencing big shifts as vendors can create viable businesses and not just a hobby.
