Meet Gareth Asher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gareth Asher.

Hi Gareth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Atlanta when I was 22 to pursue music as a career. I grew up in a very small town in West GA called Bowdon, and I knew then if I was going to build a following for my sound, I needed to be in the big city where the most people were located. I met a local musician named Francisco Vidal who started booking me for cover gigs around town, usually 4 to 5 nights a week playing 3-4 hours each night. This is where I cut my teeth as a stage performer, learning how to entertain a crowd and honing my craft. All the while I was also building my original music catalog on the side. When I had enough songs of my own to play an entire show, I booked a night at my favorite local Atlanta venue Eddie’s Attic. This was a very pivotal moment in my career. I had built up a pretty big following over the years playing cover gigs around town. When I announced my original show, they all showed up for my gig at Eddie’s and sold the room out. I made more $ for that one show then I had made playing my previous 10 gigs at bars singing other people’s music. I knew then where to completely direct my focus and slowly and methodically got away from the cover gig scene. Now I enjoyed every minute of those years playing dives and hole in the wall bars in Atlanta, but my passion had always been to write, record, and perform my own music, and I never looked back after that show at Eddie’s. I have since recorded 7 studio albums, toured all over the world, and have lived a blessed life filled with happiness attained from the pursuit of a young man’s dream.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life is always smooth. Now relatively speaking… yeah it’s been smooth. I get to do what makes me the happiest for a career, but there are always unforeseen obstacles that present themselves, most times when you least expect them. You have to stay diligent, hungry, and focused on your goals. Don’t let anyone sway you from what you know to be true in your soul. You are the only one who can open the doors you want to walk through… so do the work, stay ready, and kick’em down when the time comes for the ones on the other side to know your name.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a singer/songwriter and live performer based out of Atlanta, GA. I make music that is based around stories I live through, or that I encounter in my travels. I’m proudest of my work when someone introduces their self to me and shares with me how a song/album I recorded helped them through a time in their life where they needed help finding the light, the answers, the drive to step forward. It will always be the greatest reward from what I do.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m a space nerd. I love looking at the stars.

I’m a black belt in Shito Ryu Jiu Jitsu

I have 3 cats… all girls

Another surprise is my next show in the Atlanta area is Dec. 3rd @ Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, GA.
