Today we’d like to introduce you to George Hudson IV.
Thanks for sharing your story with us George. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For as long as he can remember, music has been a big part of IV’s life. IV is from the southside of Atlanta. He was born and raised by his grandparents in the small city of East Point, Ga. He hangs around areas such as Washington Rd., Cleveland Avenue, and Dodson Drive. By age thirteen, he was using a PlayStation video game mic to record vocals on an old PC in his great grandmother’s house. At the time, him, his grandmother, and grandfather lived together.
At age fifteen, he was playing in the marching band at Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Ga. where he had just begun his career as a high school freshman and by sixteen, he had started getting involved in producing beats with a close childhood friend and cousin from his family. But music wasn’t always just a fun hobby for a bright kid. It was a refuge for IV in a home plagued by Alcohol abuse and domestic violence.
By his mid-teens, IV had already made up his mind that he wasn’t going to settle for less and be a slave of the system but instead be an innovator to it. Though he was young, he still developed not only himself as an individual brand, but also started a production company to help young entrepreneurs like himself get more industry quality services without the hassle of high demanding contractual bindings. But, being in the band always brought about the best in him and that led to a whole different door of opportunity for him, so at age 18, he went to college.
He gained many connections throughout college. He pledged Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc., Joined various clubs and groups on the campus and he graduated in 2018 with a degree in Mass Communications: Broadcast Production. IV is your typical trap soul artist giving you spin chilling hooks, melodic tunes, hard-hitting bass and mood shifting vibes.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been difficult, I have had run-ins with the law. I have had my license suspended and I’ve been arrested for driving on a suspended license.
I had my first ever kid in college my junior year. Me, him and his mother actually struggled months before we finally began to get a little comfortable.
My grandma died while I was pledging Kappa Alpha Psi, so not only was I going through a lot with my line brothers but I also had to deal with a broken home because everyone knows when grandma is gone the family is practically split because they always keep everyone together.
As far as music, it’s been really rocky, I was on and off with it all 2016-2018 but now I’m at the point where I’m building consistency. Dropping more, and overall feeling better about my projects.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I want to give credit to my family and friends. I give thanks to my son and his wonderful mother. Thanks to the home team Soufside Mafia (@1soufsidemafia). But I want to give a special thanks to my Brother from the sandbox KFP Ken (@kfpken)
We started music, photography, and graphics all at the same age. We always inspired each other to do better and that’s what’s been happening lately. So far, by the end of the year, we both are looking to have dropped our projects.
