Meet Harry Newsome of TWO20 Photography in Conyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Newsome.

Harry, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had an eye for capturing pictures but never the equipment to fulfill my passion. My wife bought my first DSLR camera for an anniversary gift. I told myself I wanted to know everything there was to know about this camera. I”m self-taught, I watched a bunch of YouTube videos, read hundreds of articles about camera settings and equipment. I still wasn’t ready to launch my business until, a very close friend gave me the confidence to start owning my craft. He started his photography business and without knowing he inspired me to do the same. The name TWO20 Photography comes from my sons, both were born on the 20th. My mission is to make clients happy and to ensure they receive great photos. I want their experience to be memorable and know I care about their photos. My clients are in good hands with TWO20 Photography. be in demand, to open a studio and get published.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been several challenges. First, obtaining the best equipment. My first DSLR was a D3100 with a kit lens. I had no business trying to open a photography business using that camera as my primary body. After a year of just studying photography, I upgraded my body to a D7100. Soon after, I started my business. Still primarily using kit lenses. I finally purchased a 50MM 1.8. It made a huge difference in my photography but now the clients weren’t rolling in. After another year of getting 2-3 clients per month, not really charging much for sessions. I told myself I have to step my game up.

About 6 months ago, I got a full frame D800 body. WOW!! I’ve been more consistent with attracting clients. My equipment is 100 times better than when I started and it makes a ton of difference. In a nutshell getting equipment is the most important challenge for a photographer.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about TWO20 Photography – what should we know?
I want my photography to be unique, I want my clients to love and appreciate the photographs we create together. I try to find a different location for every session. As I drive around the city I’m marking locations so that each client can feel like a sort of origination/uniqueness about their photos. I service the Metro Atlanta area, but will travel if required. I shoot on location at the moment, with hopes of opening a studio in the future. I shoot individual/family portraits, weddings, and parties. I am team Nikon, but I love Tamron lenses. I own 2 Tamron lenses, my favorite lens is the Tamron 70-200 it’s super sharp and focuses fairly fast.

I am most proud of my business because it shows my passion for photography. I’ve gotten better, I look at my earlier work and see major improvements.

I love photography, one of the first questions I ask a client is do you love taking photos and if you do, we’re going to get along great.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First, I give honor to God for the skill, strength and fortitude. I gotta say, I am inspired by a few photographers all based in the Atlanta area. Drexina Nelson and I went to the same high school. I”m older than she is but once I found out she was a nationally known photographer I began following her work. She’s also Team Nikon!! Derrick Blanks, another photographer in the area that I follow. But my true inspiration comes from two people that helped me along the way. Danny Wade of Highly Favored Photography and Christy Stowe of Christy Stowe Photography, these two have done so much for me to get me to the point I am today. I’m still growing as a photographer and businessman but with the support of these two along with my wife and family. Sky is the limit for TWO20 Photography
