Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Hurtt.
Heather, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I have always shown interest in cameras and the photographs that would fill my family home. My dad noticed and gifted me with my first point and shoot at 10 years old, I would photograph every little thing. At 18, I finally bought my first DSLR, a Canon T3i. After this purchase, I started going out and photographing more, stepping out of my comfort zone and meeting new people who had similar interests as I did. I realized, I enjoyed photographing portraits more so than anything else.
Has it been a smooth road?
Finally, having the money to purchase a proper DSLR was a start to a smoother road. Photography is weird, you stare at a photograph so long while you’re editing it and you start to hate it. For a while, in the beginning, I really just wanted to give up, I thought my photographs were so poorly done that I never even wanted to send them off to my clients. Although, I always got great feedback and I guess that’s what kept me going. That and my love for photography.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize and I am known for portraiture. I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown as an artist and as an individual, photography has definitely helped me get out of my shell.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Atlanta is a great place for a business like photography. It’s amazing honestly. For someone just starting out, I definitely recommend this city. There are so many hidden nooks to capture and so many different people!
