Meet Ivana (Iv) Fischer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivana (Iv) Fischer.

Ivana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I sought comfort in online communities and social media. Sites like Tumblr, Instagram, and YouTube, were some of the only places that me, and other people like me, felt welcome. In these cyber safe havens, I accrued a following by promoting an increase of representation for marginalized people. My passion for changing the face of what society views as “normal” or “beautiful” has driven me to educate people.

I began posting informational videos on YouTube a little over a year ago. Although my channel is mostly a weird portfolio of my over-the-top attitude, I do take the time to talk about real issues that matter to me. The sooner we can get people to be knowledgeable about the things that scare them, the sooner trans people all over the world will cease to be ostracized.

Has it been a smooth road?
We all have struggles in our daily life so, in order to avoid heightened stress, I try to take things a day at a time. I’m lucky to live in Atlanta because there is a large LGBTQ+ community and engaging in it has been very therapeutic for me. The good people in my community are motivating, compassionate, driven and goddang talented! To be amongst such an uplifting group of people has made me more eager to chase my dreams, despite what anyone says. The gnats of negativity that swarm me online and in real life are mere nuisances that I will not let thwart any opportunities for success.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have made it my business to become an influential artist and spokesperson in queer culture. I am a YouTuber, Writer, Performer, and Event Hostess. I specialize in making people laugh and am known for turning a look from time to time. My charisma and unique style has developed over the years.

Living in a state of constant disarray and dissociation from my own body has shown me that the grass is truly greener on the other side. I am fairly open about my transition, so I document my progress on HRT through the tips and advice I give on my channel. I love to learn from my audience. I love to participate in discussions about the problems that affect us and give people hope that solutions to overcome our problems do exist.

I am proud to call myself a hard-working, enlightened and positive example of the millions of trans people around the world. We, as a community, are providing ourselves with the agency to thrive. We are working toward an existence free of the constraints of a system that was built on our backs. Success is on the horizon, and I aim to be there to witness it.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is a very tricky city because while the LGBTQ+ population is large and diverse, it is also very dispersed. I still the effects of a segregated Southern city, where small groups of people wish for the downfall of others that are making a change. I have feared for my life while walking to the grocery store. I have been objectified and picked apart while minding my own business.

Many people forget that trans people are their brothers and sisters, their coworkers and neighbors. We are omnipresent, so there’s no way for us to be erased.

Our city definitely has a long way to go in terms of being a safe place for LGBTQ+ people to prosper, but I have grown to love Atlanta.
