Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahad Carter & Valenica Jackson.
Hi Jahad & Valenica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Valencia and I met at a rooftop party in the summer of 2021. We both had just moved to New York City and at the party, we bonded over being too scared to talk to boys. So we began pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones to talk to boys who payed little attention to both of us, the energy between us just felt like a funny coming of age story.
What made our friendship stick and inspired our rise on Tik Tok was at this party, one of our exes and I will name who happened to make an appearances while we made our room flirting like butterflies. We both thought look how messy and funny that was and eventually we hung out so much that we understood how much of a Hopeless Romantic both of us were and we wanted to create something that people could relate to and not feel alone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a walk in the park. At first, we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into and when we both are two Gen Z Pisces working in corporate America with full-time jobs it got very hard. We were either struggling to manage filming times, overcoming fears of talking to strangers about their love stories or fighting with TikTok to not discriminate against our content that is centered on mostly queer folk, women, and POC. What makes this manageable is that we have each other even when we may get stressed or frustrated with one another, we always have each other and are dedicated to solve any problem that arises.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a Hopeless Romantic Society, a growing TikTok and social media personality interviewing people and talking about the hard parts about finding love and putting yourself out there in our society. We are most proud of the community that we have built around our page and people don’t feel alone to be themselves when they live in a world that bars or doesn’t appreciate their love.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Beyoncé music hands down gets us through life and the hardest of filming.
