Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Ramirez.
Jaime, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story is quite complex. I was born in Los Angeles California but was raised here in Georgia. As a kid, my parents divorced when I was six so that caused me to attend three different elementary schools and move around quite a few, I mention this because I believe that is where my ambition to want better in life began. Living in a rented one bedroom with 2 of my siblings, my mother & I really scarred how hard things were growing up. At 14, my mother left to Mexico to live for a few years leaving me sleeping on my oldest sister’s couch for about seven years during my high school & college years.
During my Sophomore year in college a drunk driver ran a red light rear ending the vehicle two of my best friends and I were in leaving me in a coma for two weeks. I fractured my neck, both knees, lower back & the worst was my left hip joint. Hearing that there was a high possibility that I would never be able to walk again grew an immense amount of ambition & anger in me that led me to really figure out where I wanted to be in life. Every day of my hard recovery I noticed we all had one thing in common… we wake up every day to go work for income however some people actually enjoy their life while others simply work. That is when I decided to change my major from engineering to Finance & business administration when I returned to campus. It was then that my love for Finance grew. I then went into the Financial investment world learning how what seemed normal to many Americans was completely foreign to a lot of minorities as myself. That is where my path & passion towards becoming a Financial Professional began.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t believe it is ever smooth for anyone in life, we all face our own internal & external struggles. I believe some of my struggles along the way was growing out of that mindset a lot of minorities such as myself are taught & sculptured at a young age by our hard working parents that all we must do to be successful is “Work, save our money and just be happy with the life we were given.” It’s tough growing out of a mindset like that when in college, I would work full time & attend classes full time even during winter & spring breaks while Most of my classmates enjoyed a vacation in Miami & Cancun? Mind you, I had scholarships as well. I didn’t understand but I knew their parents knew something that WE didn’t. I was on a quest to find out. One of my toughest struggles was my recovery. It’s scary to sit there in a wheelchair & neck brace without knowing your fate. Not knowing if you’ll be able to walk & still attempt to remain positive day in and day out. Lastly, one of my career struggles was deciding whether I should stay at the Financial firm I was in, receiving a steady pay and leaving to become an independent financial professional in hopes to own my own firm in the future. I took the entrepreneurial leap & haven’t looked back since.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
What I do is work directly with clients & two other registered representatives in finding the best course of plan for their financial goals or simply help them rearrange existing portfolios/plans. For millennial clients who have zero knowledge on the investment financial world but would like to start, I educate them thoroughly in order to help them construct that financial plan as well. What I am most proud of is being Independent, which ideally means I do not work for one specific Financial company instead I work with and for my clients finding the best plan of action from a range of financial products & companies in order to reach their desired financial goals. What I believe sets me apart is my age and the modern way of educating my clients. As a millennial, I understand the struggle & pressure most people face when trying to figure out “Where I should be financially at this age & what should I be doing with my income”. The average age of most Financial professionals is 55 years old. Times are changing & they’re changing fast. People NEED financial professionals who understand and live in a modern world where people are making 6 figure earnings with their cellphones & social media.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! Our city is being called “The New Hollywood” many inspiring actors & singers are migrating to Atlanta in search for a breakthrough in their careers. One thing I always tell my social media followers is this, “It is not how much you make, it is how much you keep & where you keep it.” 6 & 7 figure earners need guidance as well. Atlanta is a great place to be in with a Financial career!
