Meet Jamal Harbison of Signature Selection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamal Harbison.

Jamal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
15 years of guest service fueled me to become a bartender. Coming out of bar school, I started as an independent mobile bartender. As demand for more help and more positions to fill increased, I began to form the company. We are now a mobile event staffing service that offers several different types of service professionals and works in 6 states and counting.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most if not all businesses, our road has not been smooth. With every new level of progress, a new lesson is learned and a new skill is tested, For instance, ironically as a mobile staffing service one of our first setbacks was transportation. I used to get to my out of state events on the MegaBus. As a result, I would sit outside or near event venues until they opened for hours as not to be late. I once walked 3 miles to work an event with a heavy bag of bar tools and supplies. Experiences like these allowed the willpower and confidence inside me to manifest greatly. A defining attribute that every successful entrepreneur must possess.

Please tell us about Signature Selection.
We are a mobile event staffing service. We offer a Hand Selected group of hospitality service professionals. Our most popular services are serving and bar tending. We are known for our dazzling and ‘Dangerously Delicious’ custom Signature drinks that we custom make for our clients and their special events. I am most proud of our team being a close knit family who genuinely Love what we do. With over 300 events to date we remain a family by sharing a special bond with each other. That is being a small part of a special part of our clients’ lives.

One event that I’m most proud of is a team road trip to Miami, FL for a huge New Year’s Party on the water. A moment that no one on that trip will ever forget!

What sets us apart from some others is that we are not about the dollar first. We are about making sure that our clients know that we share a lot of the same excitement/emotions that the client has for their event. Individual to each person we leave our lasting impression or Signature on the hearts of every client. As they do the same for us. Our prices are very reasonable unlike many other companies in this industry we don’t overcharge. Our hiring or Selection process is based on the hearts of the workers first. You can train a bartender but you can’t train someone to want to help others or to care so we look for that first, we pride ourselves on having a plethora of 5 star reviews. No matter how big or how small the event they are all important to us!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory is being so spoiled by my grandparents. A major reason why I don’t settle for mediocre results in everything that I do. I guess now it’s my turn to spoil myself and our clients.
