Meet Ja’Nina Hamilton of Peach Tea Calculations in North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ja’Nina Hamilton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started working in a law office as a paralegal in 2010. My boss was amazing and we got along great! As it was only she and I in the office, that meant that I wore many hats. So not only was I the paralegal, but I was also the administrative assistant and bookkeeper. And since I have always had a thing for numbers and puzzles, bookkeeping quickly became one of my favorite things to do. In 2012, however, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. That did impact my job, but my boss allowed me to change my schedule to accommodate. During the next year, I was determined to work on my health, resulting in me being able to increase my work. But when I got married in 2018, my health took a turn for the worst again, which caused work to suffer. My husband is amazing and suggested that I take a few months off and figure out what kind of work I wanted to do from home. So I took a look at the skills that I had learned on the job and decided that I would take bookkeeping with me. I did some research and studying, and found that it is a needed field for small business owners and one that can be done virtually. That brings me to today. I now have a virtual bookkeeping business with an upcoming membership program to help female service-based entrepreneurs who do their own bookkeeping do so with confidence and have a streamlined tax season.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Since I am chronically ill, marketing at physical networking events took a lot of energy, too much for me to do them regularly. This meant that my business was going to grow much slower than if I was able to physically be in front of small business owners. And navigating the online marketing world was also difficult. My background is in law, not marketing. So getting seen and readily found has been the biggest struggle in a seemingly endless number of virtual support professionals.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Peach Tea Calculations – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a virtual bookkeeper for small business owners, specifically female service-based entrepreneurs. I take that necessary but often neglected task off of their hands so they can focus on their zone of genius. This also helps them scale, bring home more money by cutting unnecessary expenses, and prepare for tax season. I am most proud of the membership program that is in its beta stages. I found that many service-based women get overwhelmed by the thought of doing their bookkeeping because numbers are not the easiest to understand. Still, they do not outsource it because there are other things they feel would better serve their business to outsource.

So I have created a program that will help them go from overwhelmed to confident that they are doing their bookkeeping properly. They will learn how simple actions that will help them to do so and give them results that will streamline their tax season as well. When researching this with other entrepreneurs, all said that this was the first time they had heard of anything like this, so I am extremely proud of that.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that the city is diversified and you can get pretty much any type of person or even business because of that. But it is starting to become a little congested. Just the way it goes with growth.
