Meet Jasmine Dubose of Body by Jas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Dubose.

Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been an athlete since I was 6 years old, so I’ve been passionate about health and fitness since I was little. I played basketball and I was a runner all the way through high school. Once I graduated, I decided not to play any sports in college. But I still worked out A LOT. I would be at the track at Clark Atlanta University like 4-5 times a week. It wasn’t long before other students and even coaches started to notice me. Fellow students would ask me to help them work out. And I did. I realized that I enjoyed helping people achieve their goals. I love seeing people make their health a top priority. Once I graduated from college, I turned my passion into my very first business: Body by Jas, LLC.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe business, in general, as an entrepreneur can be a roller coaster. There are ups and downs. Sometimes business is good and I have a steady amount of clients. Other times, business slows down. I also know that is difficult for some people to find the motivation to stay consistent and committed to a healthier lifestyle. I have certainly found that my in-person clients tend to be more consistent than my online clients because of that accountability aspect. Other than that, I feel this ride has been pretty smooth. I don’t really have complaints. Just happy to be able to help people along their fitness journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Body by Jas is my personal training business, which I started in January of 2017. It all started helping fellow college students work out on campus. That gave me the idea to make it into a business. Here we are, nearly 6 years later, and still going strong! I want to help people look and feel their best on the inside and out. Meaning it is not just about how your physical appearance looks on the outside but more importantly, how your body looks on the inside. That is a direct result of your lifestyle, mainly what you eat. I live a vegan lifestyle and have for the past five years. I have done much research and found that most of the ailments and illnesses that people experience are a direct result of the food they choose to eat. Most people do not associate food with health, and that is understandable because we’re not really taught about that. But part of being an adult is unlearning what you’ve been taught, so you can learn what’s real. As well as changing your habits for the better. So I recommend a more plant-based diet to all of my clients. I also enlighten them on how a more plant-based diet or a fully vegan lifestyle can tremendously help them along their health and fitness journey.

I feel like most people’s perception of a personal trainer is a mean and demanding person who barks out exercises. I am the total opposite. I am a very chill individual and that carries over into my business. I feel like my gentle yet effective approach to personal training works well for my business and brings the right clients my way. I also do the workouts with my clients, I don’t just tell them what to do. I lead by example through my fitness and overall lifestyle. I think all of that sets me apart. However, I don’t see business as a competition at all. Everyone can win

Along with dietary recommendations and meal plans, I offer customized online training plans, virtual video sessions, and in-person training sessions. All training sessions are individually catered to the client’s goals. I take pride in helping others become the best version of themselves.

Individual session- $35/ session
Combo 1 (4 sessions)- $170/month
Combo 2 (8 sessions)- $220/ month
Combo 3 (12 sessions)- $300/mo

Combo 1 (4 sessions)- $100/month

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe that the characteristics that contribute to my success are: my ability to understand where my clients are coming from, being a good listener, adjusting to client’s needs and fitness level. Fitness is not a one size fits all. So I believe it’s important to actually listen to the clients and create a plan that works for them when it comes to accomplishing their goals. As an entrepreneur, it is essential to have a positive mindset and be consistent. Being consistent is something I am working on. Especially with social media, which is the best marketing outlet to use in my opinion!
