Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Harris.
Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My family relocated to Atlanta from Washington when I was a toddler so I consider myself to be a homegrown peach. I went to school in Decatur and completed my undergraduate degree at Georgia State University. Growing up here gave me a front-row seat as Atlanta grew from a small town to a major metropolitan city – and I love my city!
I worked in the meetings and events industry for nine years and then…the pandemic happened. I was licensed prior to, but the pandemic forced me to focus on real estate full time, and honestly, it was the absolute best outcome for me. I’ve had the opportunity to help first-time buyers, seniors who were downsizing, people who were relocating here for work, business owners, and expanding families.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Literally, everyone in Atlanta is a real estate agent. Literally everyone! So, there’s a bunch of competition. But that’s where having a strong value proposition, being authentic, and actually giving a damn about the people and not just the money has allowed me to build a strong referral-based business. Additionally, Covid has presented a unique set of challenges for the entire real estate industry. Creativity and resiliency have sustained me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would say there are three things that set me apart from other REALTORS®. I’m homegrown so I am very familiar with Atlanta’s unique neighborhoods, hidden gems, and even the best places for ice cream or a beer. My skill set isn’t one-dimensional – I’ve staged homes, managed renovations, and consulted on interior design projects. I’m only one person, but I’m a full-service real estate operation! Most importantly, my clients mean more to me than a commission check; real estate matters to me because I believe in the promise and legacy of homeownership. I am most proud of being able to help people who look like me build generational wealth.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is key. Identify your target market and find out where those people are. That’s where you should be. I don’t know a stranger. I talk to everyone, everywhere – in line at the grocery store, at the bar, the gym, walking around my neighborhood, even at my daughter’s school. Everyone knows what I do. You can’t be successful in real estate and be a secret agent. Be bold, be proud, be knowledgeable and be helpful.
