Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Luckey.
Hi Jasmine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My Name is Jasmine Luckey I’m originally from Brooklyn NY I currently live on the south side of Atlanta. I am the owner and founder of Jazz it Upp Skin and Body Spa as Well as Jazz it Upp Skincare System. I am a wife and a mother to 2 boys and 2 girls. After 15 years in the nursing, I decided to completely change careers, not completely sure what I wanted to do I just knew I needed a change I enrolled in esthetician school. Halfway through the program, I begin to create my own products and that’s where Jazz it Upp sugar scrubs was born. After I created my product line, I started to do trade shows to get the products out to the public doing the shows was a great learning experience I was blessed to do some pretty big shows, including the essence festival and the Ultimate woman’s expo. Doing the shows allowed me to connect with people who were in need of organic skincare products, this prompted me to create Jazz it Upp Skincare System, the products are currently being sold in the spa as well as online I am anticipating the products being in a major retail store in 2022. I always say you never know where your journey will take you, I never thought I would leave nursing and I certainly didn’t think I would own a spa yet here I am God truly had other plans for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not this journey of entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. Coming from a nursing background into a completely different field can be scary and intimidating. I started my business in August 2019 with no clientele and no finical backing I truly had no idea of what I was getting myself into. I simply trusted myself and my vision and followed my passion and worked my butt off by November 2019 I quit my nursing job and focused 100% on my business. By 2020 I had established a steady clientele with a full schedule and then covid happened, I had to shut down for over 2 months and I didn’t know if my business would survive. Once I reopened things quickly changed the demand was so high, I couldn’t keep up… Like the rest of world trying to figure out how to perform such personal services and stay safe with all these new restrictions. Which created a new challenge of how do I get out of the hamster wheel trying to service all of my clients alone. This challenge prompted me to hire out, going from a one-woman show to a team has been challenging but rewarding. Finding the right team can take time and patience. At this point, I have two highly knowledgeable estheticians on the team as well as my 15-year-old daughter who is spa assistant.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
My grandmother raised me and blessed me with her wisdom and knowledge, and at 84 she still continues to guide me. Growing up as the middle child and only the girl between an older brother and younger brother, I was adventurous and outgoing, and extremely opinionated. I loved skating and riding bikes and almost all outdoor activities. I use to love to sing and dance and at one point I dreamed of being a professional hip-hop dancer. I always had a passion for helping people especially children at one point I wanted to be a social worker however that wasn’t my path. After searching for my purpose, I evenly landed in healthcare which led me to my true passion skincare.
