Thanks for sharing your story with us Jay. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Great question. I was looking for a business to start that I could build up from the ground and one day, gives to my daughter as an inheritance (hence the name). And so, Keturah Monae Fashion was born in late December of 2018. We started off extremely slow, but with a few tweaks and word of mouth from happy customers, our traffic grew. We get a few hundred inquiries on IG a month, we are steadily growing as a brand.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish I could say yes, but it has been a rough ride, to say the least. We struggled just like any new business, especially being a part of the fashion industry which is extremely competitive. Just getting our company name in front of prospective customers was probably the hardest obstacle we were faced with. It’s one of our key principles to ensure that we don’t get lost in the shuffle within the fashion industry.

What were you like growing up?
I guess it depends on who you ask. Growing up in Jacksonville, Florida, I don’t think much has changed about me. I believe I have a good heart and a clear mind, and I try to make everyone laugh, laughter heals all things. Growing up, I have always had a passion to become an entrepreneur, I was 23 when I started my first business. I am a huge sports fan and a bigger trash talker.
