Today we’d like to introduce you to Je’Nae Thomas.
Je’Nae, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For years my little sister and I would watch HGTV and flip through magazines just to yell out “This is how my dream home will look!” We would spend hours rearranging our rooms, closets, and anything else our mom didn’t notice. A friend of mine once asked me “Why are you spending so much time doing this? Don’t you have something else you could be doing?” That’s when it finally hit my sister and me…”Why not make a career out of this? Why not learn to be the best at what we love doing?” That Sunday we had a meeting on our mom’s living room sofa and we declared that interior decorating would be our “thing.” We would do our “thing” and save others time so that they could do all of their other things.
With both of us already working full-time in the medical field, we self-taught ourselves the profession of interior decorating and quickly realized medical businesses would be our niche since we work hands-on in the environment and know exactly what and where things are used most efficiently. Opposite of efficiency, Atlanta’s big city lifestyle and reputation as the “fashion mecca of the south” reminds us that appearance is everything. Not only must you play the part, but you must also look the part. This should carry through from your wardrobe to your home and office. Your style says what you do and who you are without speaking it – so why not live in style!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been, and still is, a struggle to take time off from our busy, established healthcare careers to work on growing our business. Truthfully speaking, it requires a lot of courage and faith to depart from a steady income to the “unknown.” It’s hard leaving your comfort zone. Interior decorating for most is considered more of a luxury as opposed to a necessity, so we really have to market our services well to prove our worth.

At JJ Interior Styling, we live in style! We offer interior styling and professional organizing for homes and offices. Unlike some interior decorators, we incorporate functionality into the space. Not only do we want the space to look fabulous, we also want you to be comfortable moving about in the space. Our familiarity with medical and dental offices is our extra sparkle.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Drive – you have to be driven from within. With anything in life, you have to want it for yourself. If you truly want it, nothing can hold you back.
