Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah Ndirangu.
Jeremiah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was younger, I knew I always knew I wanted to be around cars but I never knew in what aspect. Looking back now, I realize I’ve always been interested in automotive photography. I would always ask my dad to subscribe to MotorTrend and I rarely read any of the stories or reviews, I would just flip through the pictures. It was always interesting to me the angles and locations the photographers would use. When I first started taking pictures, it was mostly of family and animals I saw while on safari in Kenya. When I was a senior in High school, I started going to a monthly car show. I took so pretty bad pictures but I really enjoyed myself. Back then, I wouldn’t miss a show rain or shine. That’s when I really started experimenting with different settings and I learned a lot and developed my style through that.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been smooth but I haven’t had many struggles as of yet besides gaining clientele. I’ve learned that with photography, a lot of it is skill but almost as important, it’s who you know.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I love photography as a whole but I think my strongest category is automotive photography. To me, a car looks best when it’s moving. I’ve been taking panning/roller shots since my first car show and I’d like to think I’ve perfected the art. I think that sets me apart from others, I don’t like to edit motion into a picture. I’m still very new to this and haven’t really established myself yet but my proudest moment was recently when I attended Petit Lemans, a ten hours endurance race, and shot the whole thing. Being there really helped me realize how much I love this and I want to be doing it as long as I can.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always in the background. I was very adventurous but in a careful way, if my friends jumped, I waited for them to land, saw how the faired then jumped more carefully. I preferred not to be in the camera even though I never stopped smiling. From a young age, I was very interested in cars remember waking up early on Saturday morning to watch Top Gear for hours. During my elementary school days, on Sunday afternoons in my house, we watched NASCAR. They used to have this time during race were the announcers would stop talking and my dad would turn the volume all the way up! We had a pretty good sound system and the roar of the engines would vibrate everything even my chest and I loved it!
