Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Evans.
Jeremy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The 20/20 Podcast began with an observation. After 12 years, I returned from Huntsville, AL to my hometown of Mobile, AL. I was eager to see what changed in a little over a decade. I was glad to see people flourishing and pursuing their dreams but I noticed a lack of media coverage. It was uncanny, the local would instances of crime but hardly highlighted those making a difference. I expressed this to my mother and started our community deserved more than what was being given. Her response shook me. “Why not you?” I did not have a response at the moment but after some consideration and research. I decided to create a podcast. It was a no-brainer. I found podcasting easy, efficient and an accessible form of media. The next part was the name. It took well over two months to decide on one that resonated with me. It dawned on me one day when I heard the phrase “hindsight is 20/20”. Then I realized, if we focus on what we learned from our mistakes, remain honest, and hold ourselves accountable, we can view the future with a 20/20 vision.
That was in 2017. In 2018, the first episode was recorded. Then in 2020, the podcast became an LLC. Hosting a plethora of interviews from established entrepreneurs to humble dreamers, we became that outlet we were seeking.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not! The poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes comes to mind. The famous line “life ain’t been no crystal stair” resonates with me. We often think of success as a beautiful fairy-tale. It is not. The story of 20/20 Podcast is full of victories and defeats. The biggest struggle has been gaining traction. In order to gain recognition by your community, you have to be present and show support. The biggest factor affecting that is time management. Working a full-time job and being a podcast-host, editor and sound engineer can be daunting. It took a while but I learned from those around me to value my time and utilize it properly. Using my calendar, emails and social media has been the most difficult and most rewarding experience of all.
The 20/20 Podcast – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The 20/20 Podcast, LLC, is not just a podcast company. We are videographers, photographers, poets and more. We love our community and are known for supporting those who feel they aren’t ‘big enough’ to be recognized by main-stream media. We also are a group of people who come together and speak our truths. Whether debating a perspective on any given topic or shedding light on a subject that could save lives, we are candid. Like our motto says, “Ordinary convos from extraordinary people.”
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely feel anywhere is a great place to begin podcasting. Whether you’re in Atlanta or Albuquerque, your voice matters and chances are, there is someone who agrees with you.
