Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Flyy.
Jeremy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a singer/songwriter from Selma, Alabama. I started out singing in my hometown with an upbringing in the church at the age of six. I first started recording at the age of fifteen with a fellow friend in his basement during my junior year of high school in 2004. It was my first introduction and notification to people who knew me from singing in the church that I had inspirations to do R&B and hip hop music. I went on to continue singing at bars and pickup gigs around the city of Selma and Montgomery during my undergraduate career at Alabama State University. In 2014, after graduating I decided to start my collection called “Jeremy Flyy & Flight Control”. We began playing at small venues around the city of Montgomery, Al and worked tirelessly to make our mark within the musical circuit that existed at the time. I also found success when I released my single, “Backseat” which was released in July 2017. Things were going well with my independent music and with the band until October 2017 where there was a small halt. Tragically, I was shot three times during a shootout not even a week after my birthday. I was forced to rest and not be mobile for three months which was probably the worst time of my life. The blow was hearing the doctors say after being shot in the neck, I wouldn’t sound the same or my walk would be funny because I was gonna be stuck with a bullet in my leg.
By the grace of God, neither one of those traits took effect with my injuries. I was grateful to have supporters that kept me motivated and confident to step back out and do my thing again. After my recovery and support from family and friends, I felt as if Jeremy Flyy and Flight Control’s journey had nowhere to go but up. In February 2018, I and my crew were back to doing what we loved to do. The business was able to expand to more cities in the state of Alabama as well as other surrounding areas within Georgia & Florida. I was back in the studio and successfully released another single, “You The One”. I take pride and gratefulness in knowing that back during that tragic time and incident, things could have easily gone the other way but they didn’t. That’s why I work the hardest to be the best in all aspects of life from here on out. People tend to ask me will I ever slow down. I simply reply that I’m living within my second chance and I wasn’t supposed to be here. There’s a fire under that will never go away. I believe that once you find your purpose as to why you are here, the light that fire, take off and never look back because you’ve already won.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I’ve learned that over time when you embrace the journey, the bumps in the road don’t fade you at all. As long as you know you’re growing through it, you’ll look back and laugh about those times later.
When we first started, there was a spot called Boomerangs that we would play every Sunday in Montgomery, AL. The owner at the time was a huge fan of music was looking for somewhat of meetup for musicians around the city. We called it Live Band Sundays. It was because of people who Monday-Friday wouldn’t show up until it was a holiday but you can bet that if you played anything or had anything to do with music, you were bound to stop by. The crowd grew from seven people our first night to 85 people by the time we had our last show. I enjoyed the growth during that time.
Tell us more about the business.
My business is called “Jeremy Flyy & Flight Control”. We are an R&B/Hip Hop Band that’s based out of Montgomery, Alabama. I’m the lead singer of the band, I specialize in R&B/Hip Hop but we also do Blues & Country within our show as well. We’re known for our young, raw and fresh of records from The Gap Band to Chris Brown. We carry a hefty song lineup that caters to all ages and keeps a fresh style. What makes me the proudest is watching the growth that happens within the company since we started years ago. I think what sets us apart is our young and fresh arrangements to old and new to make them differentiate from others and our chemistry and energy we bring are on another level.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe the industry will definitely shift and be more so in the artist’s control as far as their destiny is concerned. You notice that streams and views are being bought and more secrets to excel within the industry are being exposed at a very fast rate. Of course whatever is trending is what’s gonna pop at the time. I think that we have an attention span for drama and trends for no more than maybe a week. Then we find another bandwagon to jump on. It’s just all about what trend is gonna stick.
