Meet Jerome Hayes of Boss Cuts by Diddie in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerome Hayes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jerome. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. I’m born to be a barber. My father was a barber, so I was always around it. Even when I was separated from him at an early age, I had an older friend that was a barber. I would watch him cut hair on his back porch or at a neighborhood barbershop. When I reconnected with my dad around my pre-teen years, he had opened his own shop and he gave me a gig as a sweep boy. I didn’t like that, but I worked it for a while. I quit and went back to the neighborhood. A couple of years after that, he asked did I want to be a barber and did I want to start in the shop or go to barber school. I chose to go to school because I wasn’t comfortable starting in the shop. I stayed in school for about a month then I told him I was ready to come to the shop—That’s where I developed my skill and learned the business. I worked there for 15 years. Then I decided to chase my dreams to be a celebrity master barber and entrepreneur. That’s what brings me here to the land of opportunities Atlanta Georgia!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t always smooth because Once I got good after a couple of years, I was making a lot of money fast at a young age. That made me feel like no one could tell me anything, so I was rebellious and had to learn the hard way. The money discouraged me from school because I felt like I was making more than the teachers, so I would skip classes or not attend at all. I did end up graduating because my grandfather passed away and that’s the only thing he asked me to do. That mentality carried on into my early adulthood, where I would get in trouble not abiding by the law. I felt I had the money to get out if I was to get incarcerated and I did quite a few times. I battled with that until they sat me down for a while, then I realized money wouldn’t get me out of everything. The money went to my head and that’s what I struggled with for a while. Other than that, everything else was smooth.

Tell us more about the business.

I specialize in high quality grooming services mainly for men—I’m known for the precise natural and enhanced haircuts and making the client feel like a boss. I always encourage and motivate my people to pursue whatever they set out to do to the fullest extent and control their destiny. I’m proud of the growth of my company since I have been here in Atlanta I came here and started from scratch and now I have at least 100 consistent clients and I’m being noticed by companies like Voyage. My great customer service, professionalism, consistency, and ability to give a person the confidence needed to accomplish or pursue their dreams. I feel I speak the boss into my people once we establish a relationship. I give off great energy along with spectacular service.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck I’m blessed. This was destined for me. It is my dream I’m just manifesting it.
