Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica George.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a Talent Acquisition leader with over 15 years of experience. Currently, I work for Atlantic Street Capital Advisors, a management consulting firm for the private equity company Atlantic Street Capital. I lead all of the talent acquisition and recruitment for all of our portfolio companies. I also host a podcast, Jess Get Hired. My podcast focuses on providing a platform for job seekers, business professionals, the underemployed and underappreciated employees to level up their opportunities. I launched the podcast over a year ago as a way to assist others who had been impacted by furloughs or layoffs because of the pandemic. Since then, I’ve been able to expand my audience across the country and internationally. Since the launching of my podcast, I’ve evolved into career coaching, resume writing, and LinkedIn profile reviews, as well as speaking with a variety of student and veteran organizations about the skills and tools they’ll need to get started in their careers. Outside of recruiting, podcasting, or consulting, I am a real estate investor.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a pleasant journey. Recruiters were deemed “non-essential” personnel during the pandemic, and many of us were laid off. It was difficult to be furloughed for eight months and I began to lose my confidence on my future professional career goals. That is also how my podcast was born. Naturally, my friends and colleagues who were also starting to get laid off came to me for assistance. I was helping to coach them through video interviews, how to write a compelling resume or cover letter, etc. I started to do a series of YouTube videos to pass the time. Fast forward, I landed an opportunity at a very large start-up company leading global talent acquisition and had no time to produce video content. That is when I tried podcasting. Having no experience, I have been learning as I go.
I also changed jobs in under a year, leaving the large start-up to come back to the private equity management firm that I’m still with today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’d love to focus on my podcast, Jess Get Hired. The podcast is stepping stone to a business I foresee in the future as a talent consultant, business coach, and career coach. Indirectly, I do this already, but it is something I’d love to see evolve in the next few years.
Part of my professional role involves mentoring founders of small/mid-size businesses into how to scale their talent acquisition process and position them for growth. I also coach job seekers and prepare them for interviews, salary negotiation, and personal branding.
My podcast was ranked as a Top Talent Acquisition Podcast in 2021 by Welp Magazine, Top 20 Recruiting podcast 2021 by Feedspot, and notably I was the top Female Podcast host in my category.
My specialties include: Scalable Talent Acquisition Strategies, Employer Branding, Recruitment Marketing, Recruitment Sourcing, Vendor Management, Training and Leadership Development, Candidate Experience and Employee Onboarding.
What sets me apart is the fact that I am a creative marketer combined with a good eye for talent. Many people lean on me to think outside the box and develop creative approaches to a problem. I naturally connect with people and have a servant leaders spirit that resonates with most people.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am a commercial print model and actress and have been doing that since I was 16! I don’t have much time these days, but I still get a few auditions and have done some print work and ads. I also ran my own pin-up magazine for five years called Fashion Bombshell Magazine. I did all of the marketing, editing, writing, and managed publishing. I am represented by Actors Choice Talent Agency in New Orleans, LA.
