Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica T. Grier.
Hi Jessica T., thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started when I made the decision to seriously grow my personal relationship with God. I’d grown up in church and I was familiar with my religion, but I lacked the intimate aspects, which delayed me in aspects of personal growth. I was graduating from college in 2014 when I made the decision to dive deeper. I took some biblical studies classes at church and in 2015, I took a discipleship class called Masterlife. Little did I know it would feed a growing desire within me to have a relationship with God, know His Word for myself, and truly follow His will for my life. From that point on, my professional growth and spiritual/personal growth really grew simultaneously. The things that I experienced within the counseling field via work, classes, internship really mirrored well with my biblically spiritual understandings through taking and teaching Masterlife. Once I graduated from my Master’s program and began pursuing counseling as a profession, I also had the desire to develop a life coaching and consulting business to help people outside of just the mental health field. As time progressed, my professional skills collided with ministry and I took on an opportunity to partner with a friend to teach a weekly Bible Study and pour into women interested in becoming biblical wives. Within the same month, God gave me the idea for a devotional to help other Believers grow in their personal relationship with God. That’s how Higher Ground Consulting was born!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, I would describe it more as a cobblestone road, very intricate and requiring a slower pace and the right equipment in order to navigate correctly. My main struggle was moving in what felt like uncharted territory. I had to allow myself to be guided by God to overcome every obstacle, which required a lot of seeking and patience. I had to navigate the book publishing/printing and niche development process with very little outside help. There were no mentors to turn to nor many friends who could offer significant amounts of advice. God gave me the idea, the tools to use, and the list of steps through a book consultant He connected me with. God’s guidance walked me through every step of what He wanted me to focus on and even how the finances were going to work. He downloaded the theory of Kingdom Wellness in me and gave me more clarity as I sought Him to guide me in business. Another struggle was learning how to trust God in each moment and take the pressure off of myself with my desired timelines and wishes. In order to ensure I was following Him correctly, I also had to make the decision to shut out the well-intentioned advice of others by limiting my conversations and the content I listened to as well as getting comfortable with my answers to questions that make people cringe like, “I’m waiting on more clarity from God right now” or “I haven’t really gotten that far quite yet”.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Higher Ground Consulting is a coaching and consulting practice dedicated to helping Believers achieve wellness by getting their lives in spiritual order according to biblical principles. I have a heart for mental health awareness due to my education, training, and work in the clinical field, and I use my experience and understanding to help others develop the appropriate mindset to apply their faith to their lives in order to truly achieve wellness. I specialize in Kingdom Wellness Coaching in which I facilitate clients’ growth in their preferred areas of wellness by helping them strengthen their relationship with God. The central concept of my practicing theory is spiritual wellness. Compared to other theories of wellness that purport that the spiritual is one aspect of wellness, I propose that for a Christian Believer, it is the center of every other area of life: social relationships, finances, physical well-being, etc. I am most proud of the graphic I was able to design to illustrate Kingdom Wellness. It highlights every area of wellness by definition and gives the biblical reference for every area as well. I want readers to know they have the ability to change any aspect of their life if they align it to God’s Word. All of my services are centered around the aspect of strengthening your spiritual wellness. I offer coaching sessions virtually and in person, am available for speaking engagements, and have a 365-day devotional and journal that can be ordered online to encourage anyone along their Christian journey.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My relationship with God is the most critical to my well-being. It informs how I interact with others, conduct myself in business, accomplish goals, and so much more. I know that I need God on a daily basis and I crave His presence so that I can maintain humility and be driven at all times to achieve my God-given purpose. I am only my true self when I’m aligned with Him and it makes me a better person as I seek to serve others.
