Today we’d like to introduce you to John Lawrence.
John, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Left the ministry (insurance for the next life) and joined John Hancock (insurance for this life) some 40 years ago.
One year with JH, the company tried for more diversity with Property and Casualty insurance, teaming up with Sentry Insurance (called Hanseco). Unfortunately, life and P&C mixes like oil and water with most agents. Fortunately for me, I didn’t know any better and ran with P&C. Most of my fellow agents forwarded any P&C business to me, enabling a respectable book of business by the time (about 8 years) Hancock decided to drop out of P&C (see oil/water analogy). Thus, the birth of Signature (from our JOHN HANCOCK origin) and evolution to an independent insurance agency. I hooked up initially with Hartford and Safeco, and the rest is history. Signature Insurance Agency…our name is on the line for your protection!
We are a family business. My wife Pam and I, our son Jed (after UGA diploma in Insurance and Risk Management), our irreplaceable associate Kevin (over 17 years now) and, most recently, our most capable CSR Miss Jane. Our dedication is simple, competitive rates and personal service. We are so proud to have many clients for over 30 years now! Being “independent”, we represent many companies, enabling us to offer many options for our clients as their circumstances change over the years.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a roller coaster in slow motion. The insurance industry is quite volatile and transient. Companies change. Being honest and ethical carried us through challenging times. I thank God every day for our daily bread.

Our business is primarily personal lines, that is, life, health, auto, home…all personal and family insurance matters.
We also offer commercial insurance.

Riding my “English” bike and playing in the woods!
