Meet John Wong of Capture Cliques Photobooth

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Wong.

Thanks for sharing your story with us John. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey began as an engineer working on many projects all over the country. While work had afforded me the opportunity to live in many different places, the shorter-term assignments made it challenging to meet new people and explore the culture of each city. I discovered that local events were the best way to meet new people and see what each city had to offer and I quickly immersed myself in those experiences.

Upon settling down in Atlanta for a long-term project, I had the opportunity to pursue some of my personal passions. After being introduced to a few industry professionals at a photography convention, the idea for a photobooth business was launched and I started my entrepreneurial journey. I was fascinated with the new generation of photobooth concepts and the incredible value I knew they could add to events for both the host and, more importantly, with the customer experience. As the business grew, we have provided services for many private parties, local businesses, large corporations, and non-profit organizations that have seen the value of customer engagement and branding.

Pursuing this interest and being able to incorporate it into a space that was so important for me in personally achieving a good work-life balance as I transitioned from city to city has made the journey even more rewarding. For me, it goes beyond just offering a photo booth service for an event. I want to help create the memories and connections that people will remember in that new city they’ve begun to explore or maybe that old city that they’re rediscovering.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I started this venture with no formal business training, so the whole process has definitely been a learning experience with equal shares of ups and downs. It has been a trial by fire in terms of learning the business concepts and strategies to make it run. On the customer-side, the value of a photo booth at an event is pretty clear. On the business side, one particular struggle has been in quantifying the value of customer satisfaction and engagement for the client and presenting what I see as a small, surefire investment with high upside in terms of branding and customer service. Perseverance and hopefulness have gotten me through these types of business challenges. I still maintain my fulltime job as an engineer, which does alleviate some of the pressure and allows me to really focus on delivering the best client and customer experience possible. After I finish my week as an engineer, I get to pack up my equipment and provide services for some of the most amazing events in Atlanta on the weekends!

Despite the struggles, the journey has been fulfilling. I still remember the first signed contract I received back for an event booking. Up to that point, I had just been piecing things together and learning on-the-go, so it was really a transformational moment in my life. It validated the time and effort I had put into starting the business. The moment I received that first signed contract, I added being an entrepreneur to my identity!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Capture Cliques Photobooth – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Capture Cliques Photobooth is a photo engagement company focused on making your event memorable and unique. We provide custom photo booth services specific to your event through our numerous features and options and allow guests to capture memorable photos and videos. We help guests to connect with the event through our interactive experiences.

We are in the business of making memories and helping to deliver engaging experiences. Connecting to people and building strong relationships is essential to delivering that successfully. Really understanding exactly what an organization, company, or person wants to produce and deliver to their customers/guests and helping them achieve those goals is key. That’s why we talk so much about building partnerships. We’re teaming up to give their customers, friends, family, co-workers, or community members a memorable experience. If at the end of the day, our client sees our service as a cost and not as an investment – then we haven’t done our jobs.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As a business, we want to continue to grow and develop our existing relationships into long-term partnerships. We don’t see the photobooth as just a one-time add-on service. We see it as an investment in building your brand and marketing and one piece of a strategic process that takes time to develop and implement effectively. We want to grow with our business partners as they figure out new ways to engage their customers and build loyalty.

We also want to connect and engage more with the community through new relationships with local businesses, non-profit organizations, and festivals. We are continuing to add new features and options to be able to help make events more personable and bigger than ever.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, the events space has completely shut down. Events across the board have been pushed back late into the year, shifted to virtual platforms, or have been canceled altogether. With everything pushed out and compressed into a few months, we anticipate an influx of requests once things open up again, but we also realize that there will likely be major shifts in the way the industry operates both short and long-term. We will be ready to meet the needs in whatever format future events will take on. Fortunately, we are very flexible in our photo booth set up and it can be easily configured for any new guidelines.
