Today we would like to introduce you to Jon Hoey Radio.
Jon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After winning the 2017 Gospel Choice Award for Best Radio Personality, I decided to launch my very own digital audio stream. I like the idea of being able to play my own music while creating content that centered around interviews, topics, and podcasts.
I’ve worked in AM radio for over ten years, and since I didn’t receive any opportunities to join any terrestrial stations or major networks; I thought that it would be cool to start my own through a digital-based platform. My last name is sorta unique (pronounced “Who-E”), so I wanted to use it as the brand name for the audio stream. Using my first and last name definitely brought a greater sense of pride and determination to turn the vision into a reality. I started out by presenting topics on Instagram that surrounded around young adulthood, dating, and even some aspects of culture and religion.
I then turned my attention to interviews which spotlighted everyday people that are making a difference in their respective careers and side hustles. I realize these stories inspired not only millennials but other generations as well. I then reach out to a few non-profit organizations (most notably Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta), to form partnerships with the Jon Hoey Radio brand. We work with young creative minds to help them learn and know more about media in areas of writing, content creation, and audio engineering. We’re also partnering with the Beltline Studio and launched a partnership venture that puts an emphasis on media arts and entertainment. Now that I’ve added a producer/co host who goes by the name of “KK,” we’re looking to do more in 2020 and beyond.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, not at all! A few challenges is making sure we’re keeping up with the latest news, trends, and even technological advances, while staying relevant and up to date with content and advancing the brand. Our podcast studio closed down, and it sorta limited us with visual recordings, so most of our shared content has been just audio-based. We enjoyed engaging our viewers with the “in studio” visual experience and found it to be most effective. With us being only digital based, it’s a struggle to get big name guest or celebrities to come on the show, but we find other fun and creative ways to make the show appealing.

Jon Hoey Radio is a DBA of J. Hoey Communications, a media and consulting company that partners with both local radio/television stations. We assist artists, and business owners in areas of marketing and media promotion to help grow their brand and areas of service. We’re known as the “plug” that helps to connect individuals with trusted professionals and companies to help them reach the next level in their respective careers. I’m most proud that we’ve been able to extend our services in different areas in not only media and entertainment but also business and technology. We’ve connected and worked with individuals from different cultural backgrounds that have a similar story, and passion as we do. The thing that sets us apart is that we believe in the value of taking risks and thinking big. We understand the value and importance of not limiting oneself in any area of your life, but especially in business, and areas of professional growth.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Challenged myself to think outside the box while not being fearful of the unknown.
