Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Amerson.
Jonathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Most people call me Hakim these days. I was born July 20, 1996, in Greenville, SC, but raised as a Georgia boy. I’m 23 years old, recent Africans Studies graduate from Savannah State University. I’m currently a visual artist, and tattoo apprentice under Brother Miya Bailey at Peters Street Station Art &Design Community Center.
Since I was young, I gravitated towards art and business. My father instilled in me to work for my people and own my own something one day.
As a young man, I’ve always wanted to have my own, have something I can say “that’s mine”. Big Dreams Big Plans formed through numerous manifestations over time through my youth. The name came out of a conversation with my close friend Ms.Clark, and since then I’ve been building my “Lifestyle” brand amongst the people. I went through many challenges while building the foundation of my brand and still am; this year, the death of my father was the hardest thing I could bear, and it put a dent in my drive. Through that struggle, it gave me a fire to keep going and keep believing that one day I will have that “that’s mine” moment.
There’s only one thing that my future BDBP family has to know and that’s “Everyday 25/8”. That is the code, our mantra we live by. That is the message I want to project; No matter what you go through, no matter how hard life hits you. You have to go after it each and every day.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Challenges are every day, even through success, there will be downfalls. The death of my father will always be my hardest struggle. Through that, I’ve learned to conquer fear of the unknown.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with BDBP (Big Dreams Big Plans) – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
As BDBP grows, we want the community to benefit through our endeavors. BDBP is going to be the next lifestyle, the next fubu of our generation. The most thing in proud of is the feedback over the name itself, I appreciate that people gravitate to the name itself.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans for this year is to keep pushing EVERYDAY 25/8 and create a solid fan base in Atlanta and more cities. Long term, we hope to collaborate with top brands in the future. More content will be dropping soon as well as the website. There’s a lot for grassroots to be done to keep building. This is a journey we want the fans to be a part of.
