Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Frazier.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I spent the most of my years between Riceboro, Savannah, and Atlanta, all cities in Georgia. From an early age, I’ve had an array of interests. Drawings, basketball, and music just to name a few. I used to watch cartoons a lot, and till this day I still do. My favorite character in any show is never the main character, and seeing different cool looking character designs excited me. I wanted to sit and draw all these characters: Shadow from Sonic, Goku from DBZ, Sticky from The Proud Family, and Otto Rocket from Rocket Power. I can go on forever with a list of every character I’ve drawn and as I got older the characters matured. I’d go to school with my drawings not thinking they’re really all that great, but someone would catch a glance, and they’d first always ask if I drew it and I’d say yes, immediately the next reaction is either them asking if they can have it or is in disbelief would ask me to draw it again.
I guess my mom got tired of me using all the notebook paper she bought for school on drawings so she started buying sketchbooks. I used to draw on any paper that had a blank back. It really was just a hobby, you didn’t know I could draw unless you knew me. I took pride in being the artistic kid, I wasn’t the popular kid, wasn’t the jock, wasn’t the clown, I was just Jordan. The latter half of middle school and high school had passed and I buried my artistic talents only exercising it really when I’m bored in class, it was embedded in my mind that I can’t make money doing art the rest of my life. The only artist I knew of were the infamous “starving artist” or that’s what they’re deemed by noncreatives because they sit on river street and draw people live for coin. I went to college for a bit for mechanical engineering. That didn’t last long, after my first semester (summer classes) I wasn’t eligible to stay at Georgia Southern because my GPA wasn’t high enough.
So I went back home until spring semester. This time I went to East Georgia. During that time off, I remembered a friend of mine who is also a creative I met while I was at Southern put me on, per say, to the apps I need to draw digitally instead of on paper. It was a new wave. I jumped on it 2017 and started out on my Instagram under the handle @23mph jus asking my followers to like the picture and repost for a cartoon, then boom. Caught my footing and took off. It wasn’t until someone bought to my attention people could be paying for it that I started charging. Considering the timing, that was a great idea, I didn’t have to depend on my folks as much, with a little bit of pocket change flowing in while I’m in the dorms. As I practiced, I saw growth and growth, I became familiar with the programs, mixed my love for music and hip hop culture into my style, and went on to perfect said style. That is when I unlocked full creative mode. It took a lot mentally to be comfortable with going against the grain. It’s still a battle as I continue to take losses, but I know what I want now. I have a goal.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There’s a smoother road I could take? Point me in the direction! Depression spurts, self-doubt, fear are just a couple of the obstacles I battle on a daily. I used to seek approval from people when I draw to just reassure myself that I’m showing progression. I might sit back on posting or go on breaks where I’m not really feeling like designing. It’s really time-consuming so trying to balance out everyone that’s trying to work with your allotted time on the schedule becomes difficult when you add different key variables like your responsibilities at a job, your normal rest time, emergencies, etc. I am my toughest critic, but I try not to let that hold me back, especially when the people that do genuinely like, interact, or suggest collabs show me the positive feedback. Another challenge is learning to stay organized so you have an accurate turnaround time because I always finish pieces before I start on personal pieces.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dieezy Graphics – what should we know?
Dieezy GFX is a creative collective that offers services such as logos both cartoon and professional, portraits, clothing designs, lyric videos, and memes. There’s merchandise like wall art both canvassed and framed, along with various articles of clothing. I’m known generally for cartoons and animated cover arts for different recording artist. I’m most proud when a client proudly boasts and displays their new logo. When they’re satisfied, I am. What sets me apart from others? My creative touch spans farther than just pencil to paper, I’ve been able to catch the attention of a few of my favorite artist, YouTubers, and public figures. I don’t brag on these too much, but Big4x, DJ Kid, Funnymike, and Quando Rondo just to name a few. I was ecstatic but I don’t really post nothing about those because I don’t want people to feel as if I’m just clout chasing. I want people to like my art because they like my art, not because their favorite public figure just double tapped it.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First, I want to thank my parents, my mom wants the best for me and my pops want to see me to take advantage of my opportunities. I have a couple of mentors that’s helped along the way, My uncle Conrade Irving gave me a love for the camera, gave me insight on graphic design, and help guide me through a tough time, Mr. Antre Drummer gave me the opportunity to design his book’s, “Professor Pay Attention”, front and back cover. My brother and sister pushes me all the time, my little sister might be my strongest supporter.
My friends don’t get that title anymore so if they’re around, you’ll hear me acknowledge them as my brothers. They deserve some credit too, they’ve seen me at my best and worst. I want to thank all my clients, if you’ve shopped with me I appreciate you all. Big shoutout to OffTheWave912, they’re always supporting. There’s so many I could give thanks too, my grandmothers for all the art supplies and sets when I was just a young boy. If I didn’t name anyone, I apologize it’s really been so many that helped me get to this point that I’m not alone, I have people that believe in me.
