Meet Joshua Pavon of B1B Performance in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Pavon.

Joshua, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I always played sports and was considered athletic but never the best athlete. At a very early age, I dealt with low self-esteem and depression because of my weight. It wasn’t until my 10th grade year of high school that my life was forever changed. My passion and purpose for health and fitness was born through the help of my Physical Education teacher, Coach Tipton.

Coach Tipton was easy to talk to and always had encouraging words. She helped me believe in myself and gave me hope that I could lose weight and become healthier. There was a day in particular where Coach Tipton spoke some very powerful words to me. She said, “every decision you make today will determine the stories you tell tomorrow.”

The summer before my 11th-grade year, I decided to change my story. I made a commitment to work out every day and eat healthier. Looking back at what I know now, I would say I was probably doing a lot of things wrong, but I didn’t care because I was determined to change.

Surprisingly, over three months, I lost over 60 lbs. I completely transformed my body and I knew that I wanted to help as many people as possible to do the same.

When I went off to college, I immediately started to train classmates for free and wanted to learn more about the science and physiology of the human body. This is what lead me down the path of Strength and Conditioning.

When I graduated college, I was able to land my first gig with EXOS (Athletes’ Performance) training some of the most elite athletes in the world. Several years later, I became one of the youngest Head Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Atlanta Dream (WNBA).

During my career, I have been fortunate to work with a wide variety of populations, ranging from high school, collegiate, professional athletes, military special ops/forces personnel, and the general population.

Today, I am proud to say that I am the Founder and CEO of B1B (Become 1% Better) Performance. in Buckhead. We specialize in training middle-age men, 30-55 years old.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely, not. The truth is that I’ve had more failures than successes. However, I believe the failures I’ve had along the way have led me to my successes.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve had to overcome is learning how to maintain a level of courage and boldness in the face of fears. It hasn’t been easy in the transitional seasons of my career, especially deciding to go from the professional sector to the private sector of coaching.

For me, the Art of Coaching has always come a bit easier than the Art of Selling. Overtime, this has forced me to learn about sales and entrepreneurship on a whole another level. I would say I have learned how to be more confident in my coaching expertise and the services that I offer. This has allowed me to not only become a better coach but also a better businessman.

B1B Performance – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
With over ten years of experience training male athletes and clients from various sports and walks of life, I realized that men make lots of excuses when it comes to changing and becoming the best version of themselves. Men want simple, easy-to-follow things that can give them results but sometimes don’t have the right habits in place to get there.

That’s why I founded B1B (Become 1% Better) Performance. We specialize in training middle-age men, 30-55 years old. Whether your a current or former athlete, business owner, entrepreneur, work in the corporate setting or consider yourself a fitness enthusiast, our company is for YOU.

We train all of our clients, like athletes. You may be wondering why? Because we believe if you are human, you are an athlete. Life is a sport, so we must always be ready to perform.

Through our hybrid training model, we also believe that Men need three things in order to be successful; Brotherhood, Accountability, and a competitive environment.

We help men become stronger, more resilient towards injury and create simple nutrition strategies that will lead to a happier, more sustainable lifestyle.

My motto is simple, “Become 1% Better Everyday.” I believe that in order to accomplish any goal, big or small, you must consistently make small daily changes to achieve success.

I think what sets me apart is my coaching and leadership ability. I believe the highest form of leadership is not a title nor position, its Influence. I have been quite successful influencing men from all walks of life, helping them become more healthier, physically and mentally.

I truly believe “Healthier Men Accomplish More.”

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Honestly, I don’t have one specific moment that I’m most proud of. It’s been a collective effort of the relationships that I’ve been fortunate enough to build and cultivate throughout the years (either with my clients, at networking events, my mentors, and/or friends), This has opened up many great opportunities for me to be a part of.

Many times, I’ve taken this for granted and often have overlooked being grateful for the small things in life. The small things is what life is about. This is where we find true joy and fulfillment in our calling.

I am honored and blessed to have worked with all the athletes/clients that I have had over the years. As much as I would like to think that I helped them, I would say they probably helped me more. There are a lot of people that I thank for my success, but none more than my beautiful wife, Yesica. She’s been my biggest supporter! Love you babe.
