Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Coffin.
Julie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My grandmother was a florist and my mom worked in interior decorating. We were blessed with the “creative gene” in our family, so after years of designing events for friends and family, I decided to start my own company in my basement. About 12 years later, I moved to Buckhead and then added a production facility in East Cobb. I hired talented, full-time designers and now we design approximately 200 special events a year, including weddings, corporate events, social events and mitzvahs. 2020 marks our 20th year in business!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have to rely so much on mother nature! A hurricane can strand our roses in the Miami airport. A volcano eruption can keep all of our Holland flowers from flying to the US. Luckily we have developed relationships with multiple vendors in several parts of the world to try to have a backup plan at all times!
Unique Floral Expressions – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a special event design company. We meet with our clients, develop and refine their vision for their special event and then pull together all elements of decor. From flowers to linens and draping to lounge furniture, we work with our design partners to pull together one cohesive package so our clients can meet with us, and then hand off the design responsibility. They can then relax and enjoy their event, knowing it will be unique, personalized and fabulous!
I’m most proud of numerous industry awards we have received for outstanding floral design.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
There are companies at the very top of the floral design industry in Atlanta that are very highly regarded and sought after. When we started designing for the NFL and its players, as well as NBA players, we started feeling like “we made it.” Those kinds of clients aren’t the end-all or be-all, and we love all of our clients, but when those who could afford to hire absolutely anyone choose us, it kinda makes you feel special. 😉
