Meet Justin Hogan (SLEEPYHEAD)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Hogan (SLEEPYHEAD).

Justin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
You could say it started when I was five years old; drawing on my bedroom walls with crayons and markers. Then moved into drawing my favorite cartoons and dragon ball z characters in my notebooks during primary school. When I was 12, I found an old art history book, which had to have been from the 70s; this was my first exposure to paintings from the Old Masters. Going into high school, I was really into digital media. My friends and I would spend our time honing our photoshop skills, making GIFs, and posting on the IGN forums. Fast forward a decade, I can look back and see how every moment, everyone I’ve met, and everything I’ve done has led me to where I am today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well everyone has struggles in their life at some point; some more than others. The big one for me, which many have, would be financial struggles. With that said, nothing will keep me from achieving any goal I set. I will work as much as I need to fund my dreams, pull as many all-nighters it takes to finish projects, and never settle for second best.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m just a guy who loves to paint! I will paint any and everything; whether it’s canvas, a wall, clothing, or that old dishwasher posted up on the curbside.

I’m also active in the free art Friday community in Atlanta. If you’re not familiar, Free Art Friday is a local art scavenger hunt. The FAF ATL community is so supportive and all about spreading art to everyone. To participate all you have to do is follow #FAFATL on Instagram and wait for someone to make an art drop! That easy! 🙂

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Art in any form will always be around. As society changes and new ideas emerge, so will new ways to see and create art.
