Meet Kaitlin Hodson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin Hodson.

Hi Kaitlin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started acting when I was around 15 years old doing community theater in my hometown Aiken, South Carolina. The thing that really started it off though, was when I was doing a project for school and needed a newspaper for it. In the newspaper was an ad for an independent film holding auditions. I somehow managed to get that role and fell in love with everything acting and film-related. I knew then, at 16, this is what I wanted to do with my life.

So, I started taking classes and workshops with coaches from Atlanta and all over the southeast. Before I knew it I was adding short films to my resume, commercials, and even some modeling. Five years later, I signed with Easy Coast Talent agency who I am fortunately still with. Even in the middle of a pandemic, I have been blessed with so many opportunities. As far as what’s next, I have a feature film coming out hopefully later this year that I’m really excited for. I also plan to start writing some. It’s definitely taken some time to get to where I am now, I’ve still got a long way to go, but it’s nice to see how even the seeds 16-year-old me planted are still benefiting me today.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think the road has been as smooth as anyone other actor’s. It’s just not an easy field to break into. I’ve been told “no” a lot more than “yes,” of course. It did take five years for an agent to give me shot. That alone had me considering giving up more times than I can count, but I knew that I wanted to be an actor. I had to keep fighting for what I wanted because if I didn’t, I knew that I’d regret it. Eventually, I reached that milestone! I still haven’t booked anything major, but I know now it’s just a matter of patience and continuing to put in the work. That’s the mentality that’s gotten me through this pandemic, which is probably the second biggest obstacle in my career so far. Things have been slow for obvious reasons, but classes are still going (while being safe and following all guidelines of course) and people are starting to make their own content. If there’s a will, there’s away.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actress, sometimes a model. I have made a list of independent shorts and features. My most recent being a feature film coming out later this year called “Bryn Gets a Life”. I’ve worked with a few brands, including Brahmin. I’m proud of every project I’ve ever been a part of. My favorite thing about the film industry is that everyone puts their heart and soul into it. There are not many jobs where everyone is genuinely passionate about what their doing, and I’m proud to say I’ve been a part of that. As far as being set apart from others, I’ve been told I’m very stubborn and hard headed. This isn’t always the best thing, but it’s probably the only reason I’ve had any success at all as an actor.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’m all for taking risks. In a world where we are doing remotely, self-tapes and the casting director has to watch hundreds of people do the same thing over and over again, especially on video, it’s best to take a risk and try something you know they probably haven’t seen yet. Ultimately that’s going to be the person they remember. The auditions where I’ve taken a big risk are the ones that have resulted in feedback from casting, a callback, or another audition. I’m almost convinced that you can’t succeed without taking a risk here and there.
