Meet Kara and Hank Lane of The Venue at Murphy Lane in Newnan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara and Hank Lane.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kara and Hank. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We decided to start a business together. After considering several ideas we decided to find property on the south side of Atlanta. We wanted a place we could live plus operate an event venue. We found a beautiful 88 acre farm on the west side of Newnan, GA. There is a home where we live, a log home which is available for on-site accommodations, a large metal barn we use for storage and another barn which we completely renovated. We now have a barn with heating and air, elegant decor and a huge wrap-around patio. Part of the patio is now covered and can be heated. We have several outdoor sites which can be used for wedding ceremonies. The barn is a great place for wedding receptions, dinners, parties and events. We have mainly focused on weddings but are looking for ways to expand into other areas. We have lived on our farm for three years now. We have operated our business for two years.

Has it been a smooth road?
We really didn’t know whether or not we would be able to get the necessary permits (Special Use Permit-SUP) to operate our business in an agricultural/residential area. We took a leap of faith and bought the property with no guarantee of being able to get our required license and permit. We were told by our county that the requirements to get a SUP was quite a “process”. No kidding! We tell anyone who asks that it takes time, money and persistence. If you don’t have anyone of these, you probably won’t get off the ground. It has been a lot of hard work and quite the learning curve for us, but we are building the business the way we want it with our own blood, sweat and a few tears.

The Venue at Murphy Lane is a wedding and special events venue located in Newnan, Georgia. We specialize in weddings but also host a variety of other events. Although there are many other venues located in the area, we believe we have a “hidden gem” at Murphy Lane. We are very “hands-on” and have an amazing staff that works events with us, providing 5-star service all the way. We work very closely with LeaAnn Hurd of Southern Flair Events, who is our exclusive on-site planner/designer. Together we work to build the Dream Team of vendors who are committed to creating the couples’ dream wedding. We are on the wedding journey with our brides and grooms from the minute they book their wedding date with us right up to the wedding day. At the end of the wedding night, we want to hear our couples say it truly was their BEST DAY EVER!!!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We think the Atlanta area is a great place to open an event venue. There are already quite a few venues around the area, but we are all very different. We highly encourage our clients to get out and visit other venues and try to compare apples to apples. Wedding packages and prices vary. As venue owners, It is important to us to offer the very best to our clients. Our business continues to grow and change as we try to meet the needs of our clients. No two weddings are ever alike and we love to be part of the planning process. Venues are just as diverse as clients, so it is great to have the opportunity to own/operate a business that aligns with your values and your vision. We feel blessed at Murphy Lane!
