Meet Katie Rocco of The Rocco Team at Keller Williams in Alpharetta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Rocco.

Katie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I moved to Georgia in August 2013. We sold our home in Florida and both started on new career paths. We heard that Alpharetta, GA was a beautiful area and so we decided to rent a home sight unseen and give it a year. Well, here we are 4 years later, and proud to call ourselves homeowners and citizens of Alpharetta, GA. I got my Real Estate license because my husband would not stop pestering me about it. He thought it would be a career I would enjoy and an opportunity to use my personal passion in my business. I have always loved helping people and enjoyed hearing their story and learning about their life. I have learned so much in life just by listening to others experiences that they have had and found such inspiration in that. My Real Estate career started, by me calling For Sale By Owners and door knocking. This was super exciting because not only was this a new career to learn, I was also in a new geographical area as well. I was up for the challenge. I would say looking back, had I really thought this through, I would have probably never done it. There is something to jumping in and just swimming and not overthinking things. My first official day was October 10th, and by December 31st, 2013, I had sold almost 1 million dollars in Real Estate. I never really stopped to celebrate any success. Instead I was looking for the next family to help. That is really what this job has been to me since the beginning. Who is the next person, or family, that I can help, to make this emotional process to be just a little more fun and stress free? From the beginning, I surrounded myself with bigger thinkers and incredible mentors that always encouraged me to do my best and give it my all. Without these amazing people, I do not know where I would be today. Within about 9 months, my business turned from outbound prospecting to incoming referrals. I didn’t have a sphere in the Atlanta area at all, so these referrals were coming from my past clients. I was so honored that they would trust me enough to refer me their friends and family. I did not take this lightly. I was committed to building a business full of Raving Fans. (I like to call them my walking bill boards). Now fast forward to 3 and a half years later, and my business is 98 percent referrals, and 2 percent of people just finding me online and calling me. I have never advertised myself or spent any money to market “me” as an agent. I am truly overwhelmed on a daily basis at how blessed I am to have the business I do. I get to help amazing families every day with the most important purchase of their life, while building lasting relationships along the way. Because of the trust of the people I serve, referring me the ones they love, I was the number 1 individual agent in my office for closed volume in 2016. This year I have brought on an executive assistant to help keep my customer service at the highest level possible. My goal is to serve as many families as possible, while still providing that personal, customer service touch to each and every one. Many amazing leaders have been extremely kind along my journey, and today that is something I am passionate about. I am always looking for opportunities to give back. Not just in business, but in the local community as well. I serve as a State Director on the board for the 400 Association of Realtors, and on the board of our Associate Leadership Council for Keller Williams North Atlanta. I am also blessed to be a part of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta where we have the opportunity to participate in many projects giving back of our time and money, both locally and internationally. I am so grateful and blessed that I get to do something I love every single day, and have the opportunity to make a difference in the many lives that I cross paths with. I am excited about a very bright future!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not every day has been easy. Starting a new career in a new city takes grit. It took a mindset shift for me to focus on the future and not get down about a current situation. I would say my husband had to talk me off the ledge many times. He has always been a huge supporter to me and a great coach. In the Real Estate business, it is easy to get caught up in the daily tasks and fires to be put out, and lose the focus of the future. I am beginning to grasp this and it has made a big difference for me.
