Today we’d like to introduce you to Keisha Brown.
Keisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2011, I attended the State University of New York College at Buffalo. My major was Theater, but I changed it to Hospitality Administration. I thought I wouldn’t be able to obtain a job in Theater. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Hospitality Administration. I put my acting career on hold. I was focused on my new career in the Hospitality industry.
In 2018, I started pursing my dreams again! I created skits. I was going on auditions. I took acting classes. I had received a few call backs, but didn’t book any gigs. I was discouraged. I didn’t want to pursue acting anymore. I had to keep my dreams alive! Acting has always been my passion!
I started Keisha Nicole Productions in 2018. I wanted to create my own platform to tell my story. I wanted to create opportunities for other creatives. I create content to let people know their worth! Dreams do come true! We have to believe we can accomplish anything in life!
In 2014, I debuted my first production. It was a one-woman show, called, “My pain, My struggle, and My success.” It was a story about my life. In 2018, I put on another production called, “Are you Worth it?” I wanted to inspire, and encourage people to pursue their dreams! It was in that very moment I knew I was a storyteller. I was elated and inspired to create content that would change generations to come!
In 2017, I wrote my first play called, “The Forgiveness Train.” I had learned the importance of forgiveness through life experiences. It is important to forgive others, but most importantly to forgive ourselves.
In Buffalo, NY, 2017, I was in a play called “Love Hurts Part 2”. I was intrigued, to create skits, write and study acting!
In June 2019, I moved to Atlanta, GA to pursue my acting career! Moving to Atlanta has been the best decision I’ve ever made in my life! Since I’ve been down here, there has been some amazing acting opportunities that I’ve booked! I’m in a play, called ,“Domestic Trilogy”, and I just booked a role in a TV serious! I want to thank God for making my dreams come true!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had some struggles with starting Keisha Nicole Productions. My struggles were finding my team, a lack of confidence, a lack of consistency with creating content, a lack of bringing in revenue. I didn’t know anything about owning my own business. I knew I had a vision. I didn’t know how to bring my vision to fruition.
I didn’t have the courage to pursue my purpose. I was afraid of what people thought about me. I let years go by with out pursing my purpose. I was afraid to get in front of a camera and perform. I started to doubt myself. How can one move past their struggles in life and preserve? I knew It was time for me to execute my vision.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Keisha Nicole Productions is my business. I am a content creator, actress, writer, director, and editor. I specialize in creating skits. My skits are about self love, having healthy relationships, and pursuing purpose! My mantra is, “I live on purpose, I love on purpose, I am purpose”!
I’m mostly proud of producing my own shows back in Buffalo, NY! I shot my first short film, in November 2019. I wrote, directed, stared in, and edited my own film. I was proud of myself! I didn’t know anything about the film industry. My background is in theater. I had a great team who helped me accomplish my goals!
I took a producers course online to enhance my skills in the film industry. I learned how to edit, direct, and use a camera. I want to thank E-Tre productions for helping me dream again!
I am currently in the process of creating a web series called, “I am n💍t signing those damn div💍rce papers”.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
when I was a little girl, I would line my teddy bears up and create characters for them. I remember my mom walking past my room, and asking me who are you talking to? I told her I was talking to the audience. I had a big imagination as a child! I remember I would have my younger sister act in my skits I created. I remember all of my favorite shows I would watch as a child. Photos of my favorite childhood actors bring on pure nostalgia! I knew earlier on that I wanted to act. I was speaking things into existence! I couldn’t wait to live out my purpose in life!
I loved spending time with my family whether it was in Buffalo, NY, or Georgia! Every year I would visit my family in Atlanta, GA. Atlanta, was my second home! I created so many great memories in Atlanta!
I want to thank my family, and friends for supporting me in all my endeavors in life!
