Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Davis.
Kelly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Wow!! Thinking about my start always makes me laugh because just like most women, we go to the beauty salon to release and laugh well unbeknown to me, I would be inspired by the very woman doing my hair. Once I graduated from Central State University in Wilberforce Ohio, I moved back to my hometown of Milwaukee Wisconsin and was torn because here I am with the communications degree and there are no jobs in the field I would like to be in so I decided to be a schoolteacher where I was extremely successful even won Teacher of the Year, however I was not fulfilled totally and wanted more! So While getting my hair done my beautician she mentioned she was doing comedy and said I could get a 5 min spot! I was excited I ran home and told my then boyfriend (now husband) about the conversation and he dared me to try it, So boom Mother’s Day 2009 changed my life forever!
My husband and I jumped on the road and we made our way around the country in our Ford Taurus! Every opportunity my husband found on Facebook where a show was being held, he reached out to Promoter’s and pretty much sold them on the idea of Kelly Kellz and why they needed me on their shows!
Fast forward 11 years later, I have moved from Milwaukee to New York from New York to Atlanta where I am always betting on myself! I live in the black Mecca and I am able to create lanes for myself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If a road is too smooth, you can get a little bored and tired and drift off but if your road consists of a few twist and turns, it keeps you alert and on your toes! I’m truly grateful for my journey because is uniquely mine I know a lot of people allow the no’s to create a wall or barrier but for me, I’ve collected all my no’s, maybes next time, no returned phone calls or emails and have used them as a stepladder so each time a person or an obstacle comes my way I know I’m being elevated to the next level so I count it all joy!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an entertainer!! I specialize in comedic relief from Stand up Comedy where my Journey began to Public speaking from Commencements to Motivational !! I’m most known for Stand up comedy and being an internet influencer! However, I love to call myself a conductor of energy! I’m proud that I have a heart to serve and that my contributions in the world especially my hometown of Milwaukee has recognized me and I’ve earned a Proclamation in my city of Milwaukee and the State of Wisconsin! September 4th is Officially Kelly Kellz Davis day in the state of Wisconsin and the city of Milwaukee. I truly know my special way with people sets me apart! I take pride in knowing that when anyone is in my presence, they will have a Kelly experience rather I’m on stage on camera or one on one its a vibration I give to uplift, encourage and inspire!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
So my relationship with God keeps me grounded and focused on my success! I learned to enjoy the process and actually live in the moment! I’m excited about everything but I don’t want to rush nothing at all! I’ve also learned that when you celebrate other successful people, it keeps you motivated!
