Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Word.
Ken, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started doing music two years ago. Music artists like 2Pac, Jay-Z, and Meek Mill inspired me to rap just by their flow, their stories in their songs, and what they rapped about. I was rapping and dropping videos consistently at a young age. I was getting views and heard from the city and other areas. As time passed by, this group called No Label Music Group heard my voice and wanted to reach out to meet me personally and hear my talent. No Label Music Group kept in touch and followed up on my music when finally getting signed by them by the third month of meeting them. Since the day No Label Music Group signed me, they have stood behind me, mentored me and made me feel in the right state of mind. They showed me I could make money, express my voice in music, do shows, and travel to different states. The most important thing though is to put my family in a better position.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes, this has been a smooth road. The Label makes sure that I am being taken care of.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am known for making Hip Hop Music. I am known for rapping on what goes on in the world today. When I’m not doing music, I am out in the community giving back, helping school drives, feeding and clothing the homeless, and influencing the younger generation. My music speaks about influencing and encouraging people that they can be someone and be better in life. What makes me unique from other rappers, that I like to see others do great and I would go out my way to motivate and do whatever it takes to see that person reach their dream.
What were you like growing up?
My personality growing up was totally wild. I used to be a stubborn and always right person. I am still growing and maturing each day. Things that interest me now is finding ways to make money. Investing has been growing on me. I want to invest in myself. Finding and creating my own business outside music. I would like to invest in stocks, land, properties, and even homes. I love money and see myself having several incomes.
