Meet Keon Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keon Mitchell.

Keon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with my computer science degree. While attending A&T, I study acting for non-acting majors. After graduating, I move move to Raleigh, NC where I started training for me corporate life as a business systems analyst while also in pursuit of beginning a career in acting. I was offered and opportunity to perform in a stage play called “Mirandy and Brother Wind” in which I played Brother Wind. I was slated to move to Charlotte, NC for my corporate position and when I did, I landed at Carolina Talent Agency. My very first project was a national ESPN high school football commercial following David E. Talbert’s number 1 comedy, “Almost Christmas”. Through faith and honing in on the craft of acting and not fame, I began my acting class after the feature film have been in many commercials and now TV shows. One of my latest projects is “Lovecraft Country” produced by Jordan Peele and more. It will be airing on HBO in days to come.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to success is rarely easy. Developing the craft of acting requires time and work. Understanding the filming industry is essential and a challenge within itself. Balancing corporate America and an acting career can be extremely conflicting, time management wise. I have been able to acquire very flexible positions that have allowed me to be able to audition frequently and film when booked.

There are more No’s than Yes’s when you are on the road success. Therefore, battling the anxiety, some call it actor’s anxiety, was a challenge until I began to thoroughly understand how the process works and realizing that what is for you will be obtained.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a BSA (Business Systems Analyst) I gather business requirements from business partners and ask the right questions to understand exactly what they want. From there, I create user stories and more which are items used to define the criteria on how to develop the requirements from a technical perspective that the developers use to build out what the business is looking for. Testing the product and the requires to ensure the business is getting what they asking for is also a part of my corporate position prior to release the software to production.

Although this is my corporate standing, I am known for my acting endeavors. In the community of rising actors I am known for various projects and my passion to spread information that I have about acting and getting started. My charismatic energy and dynamic personality sets me apart.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up in a single parent home on the east side of Atlanta was tough but great. I was like most kids. I had confidence and self-esteem challenges, but I knew I was smart. Throughout grade school, I stayed on the honor roll and principle’s list. I was also interest in my education and social organizations like FBLA, the step and even math. I loved engineering. My dreams changed from being an Aerospace Engineer to a full time acting hoping to be on the big screen one day. I spent, literally, every weekend skating since I was two years of age. That kept me at peace and out of the streets.
